The Midwest Region is not particularly strong this year. Based on the P.I. rankings the Midwest Champ will not get out of the quarterfinals of the Elite 8. That could all turn for the better of course. I am not sure this is what the Evansville Sports Corp. had in mind when they brought the D2 tournament to the Ford Center. It is still a great venue for the National Championship.

I asked the same question and have not found an official answer. The assumption is the tournament runner up gets the auto bid. This seems to be significantly increasing the chances of an unranked team getting a bid. Considering that an unranked team got the GMAC bid last year, I'd be nervous if my team is ranked 6-8 in the last ranking.Originally posted by ftballfan View PostComment

Honestly if you are playing a tournament with an automatic bid on the line, a team that is not eligible for the tournament shouldn't be aloud to participate. My guess is that this doesn't happen often, but we will find out in a few weeks.Originally posted by Knightmoves View PostComment

Are you saying there is a chance that Davenport is not participating in the GLIAC tournament? There is no indication on either Davenport's or the GLIAC webcite that they are ineligible for the tournament. Frankly, I think it would be a travesty not to let them play for the league championship, considering they are clearly one of, if not the best team in the league and their ineligibility for the NCAA tournament gives them nothing else for which to play. Really the point of the conference tournament is to determine a champion, not determine the auto bid. Personally, I think conference tournaments are a silly way to determine a champion or the recipient of an auto bid, but if you are going to let a team play in the regular season, you ought to let them play in the conference tournament. Davenport has kind of thrown a wrench in the who set up, good for them! Truth is that Davenport may help the GLIAC get another NCAA bid, because Ashland is in no matter who wins the GLIAC tournament.Comment

One of our past conversations has been about "bracket creep" in the PIs (brackets being 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, and 75-100%). Some teams may experience this jump (up or down) during the tournaments. Probably isn't a significant factor at this point, but still can minorly affect seedings. Recall that each "bracket" results in a difference of 3 points averaged into the score.
