    Re: G-MAC Basketball

I was curious whether there would be any info on the conference website regarding the conference tournament layout for next season (post expansion) and - lo and behold - there is!

    http://static.gmac.sidearmsports.com...Winter2017.pdf

Last couple of pages of that document lays out the tournament formats that will be used for various numbers of programs in the conference. That's probably smart since expansion is still being pursued so that way they don't have to go out and update the operating codes every time a new school or batch of schools join the conference.

Relevant specifically to next year, the G-MAC tourney will be an 8 team format with no byes, just like the GLIAC tourney this year. It does not specify, but with the 3 rounds being played back to back to back days it appears the top seed still hosts the entire tourney. I'm not sure how it will work if KWC gets the top seed, since 4 games the first day would run into conflicts with the 3rd Region HS tourney...but I guess that bridge would have to be crossed if and when we came to it.

What's even more interesting, however, is that with Ursuline on the womens' side, that becomes a 13 team league, which means the womens' tourney format will be a 10 team format with the bottom four seeds playing a first round game while the other 6 receive a bye to what would be round 2. So for the first time (that I'm aware of) the mens' and womens' tourneys will be formatted differently.

There should be a pretty decent crowd for the Championship game on Saturday if KWC is in it.

The Championship game is at 1:00 pm. Kentucky plays at 11:00 am. So, there will probably be some stragglers come in after the game starts.

I believe there were around 1,600 last season. I am predicting 2,500 for the title game. It could be a little higher than that. We will see.

There are biddy league teams that could shoot FTs better than Ohio Valley.....that's pathetic.

No way can you overstate the importance of FTs. I like the fact that we can put five players on the floor and average over 80%.

I know this doesn't really mean anything but I found it interesting.

Looking at the final regular season stats on the conference website, of all of the team stats that are listed only one of them ranks out in the exact order of the final conference standings. And that happens to be ... Free Throw %

FREE THROW PCT G FTM FTA Pct
    1. Kentucky Wesleyan 28 492 661 .744
    2. Alderson Broaddus 28 426 585 .728
    3. Davis & Elkins 26 480 716 .670
    4. Malone 25 273 412 .663
    5. Cedarville 28 321 485 .662
    6. Trevecca Nazarene 28 310 469 .661
    7. Ohio Valley 26 265 465 .570

    Coincidence?

CU's loss to KY State was a bad loss. I just looked up the Thoroughbred's record - 10-16, 7-10 in conference. They have a couple losses to NAIAs. Not what you want to see as you approach the tournament.

    D&E handles Malone 86-71

Saturday's AB/D&E matchup will decide who gets the other 1st round bye.

Big game tonight with Malone vs D&E. If I am figuring tiebreakers right a Malone win means AB clinches the 2 seed. D&E win sets up Saturday game to decide.
