    Re: G-MAC Basketball

Seems reasonable to assume ALL programs "possess various behaviors and trends" ;-)

But I understand what you're saying.

As for my part in this discussion, I was not intending to imply a systemic or historical trend of dirty play by Trevecca or anyone else. I was simply expressing frustration that in this game their players seemed to be less than concerned about playing cleanly, their coach seemed more amused than is becoming when our players suffered minor injuries, and the officials were far more interested in making sure we didn't retaliate than they were getting control of the situation. In THIS game. And yes, Ohio Valley has gotten chippy with us several times over the past couple of years, but I also don't think that's a "program" thing as much as it's a "certain players" thing (and a frustration over being ... bad ... thing).

I can only speak for myself, though.

I don't know if the league would or should review anyone's actions from the game. It wasn't like a fight broke out or anything really egregious - it was just one of those times when you watch the game and say "these guys are playing kind of dirty". Nobody shivved anyone lol. There were no punches thrown, nor even any threats of that. It was just things like grabbing a guy going up for a dunk or layup, then not showing a ton of sportsmanship while they are down.

Let's not make such a duplicitous post towards other conference members without naming them. That seems to me to be a pretty strong allegation to say other conference members "possess various behavior and trends as well". You said that comment after your comment about a player getting bodily harm caused to them. If you are going to be so sanctimonious, then don't hide behind finger-pointing. Name the programs that you see doing that. You said that there is multiple programs beyond Trevecca doing this.

I agree TNU has been a very good partner and kids like each other in all other sports. The lone senior from Louisville was not part of the non sense.

If things were as dirty, mean-spirited and blatant as you guys say, TNU administration may take action themselves. What you are describing sounds very contrary to the tone/spirit the school (and athletic department) proclaims to adhere to.

That's just dirty basketball and it starts with Trevecca's coach. The Commissioner should directly and immediately work with the conference coordinator of officials to cut the chase.

Wesleyan is bigger than TNU and they took out Josh Derksen.

I realize players get hurt, but Wesleyan will not take the abuse. Fans scream and yell crazy stuff, but that's college basketball. However, the conference needs to send out the message that this stuff will not be tolerated.

TNU's coach standing there smirking while our players were down (all 4 times) drove the point home as well.

My two cents.... I have watched many G-MAC games. Kline from AB did many things that should have been called as fouls (old news but true)
Wesleyan has a player that has made some non basketball actions that were dirty. I have told Happy and company to get control if they want my support. It has gotten better and Wesleyan has shown the leadership I expect. I have seen no other dirty playing in any G-MAC games. Playing hard with some pushing and shoving happens but usually is corrected quickly.

Yesterday's dirty play was meant to send a message and needs attention NOW!

I was at the OVU game. OVU started very strongly and made several Wesleyan players look bad. Wesleyan tightened their defense OVU could not handle the press, for a short time lost their cool and pushed off after losing the ball. No one likes to be embarrassed but what happened with TNU will get players hurt.

I do not think their coach showed the leadership I expect from a G-MAC coach.

Not offended. I apologize for the snarkiness of my posts. I'm grumpy this week and I let it boil over here.

Although for the record OV didn't so much play dirty as they tried to start fights not related to the actual game play.

Ok I guess I stand corrected. I'm sorry if my expectations of playing a clean game offends you.

Alrighty then. I just recalled this, below, and all the other, "opponent body slammed us" type comments from the past.

    kwcpantherfan:
Ohio Valley trying to trash talk, pushing shoving starting fights. Pathetic display. They did the same thing in the Sportscenter last year. Not our problem they're the worst team in D2 - no need to play dirty. I hope we beat them by 100.

KWC won by 24 points. One of our players had to go get stitches. I saw what happened concerning the play. Other programs seem to posess various behavior and trends as well.

We'll see how it plays out. Our total travel budget with football will probably be the largest in the G-MAC next season.

Don't take KWC for granted in the G-MAC. The college has overcome a large obstacle, and the college will move forward. That especially will be true for the athletic department. What's wrong with requesting conference officials reviewing the game?
