I see Pueblo is ranked top 15 in three national polls. Just for the record one, Lindy's, also lists Adam State as #25 nationally. Do they know something we don't? http://www.gothunderwolves.com/sport...20180727qxmkec

No. They probably just ran out of teams they knew of and Adams State was first alphabetically to put at the end of the poll.

The PSAC went from hosting on-site media days two years ago to dropping the on-site portion for a "virtual" media day with videos from each of the programs last season to simply issuing press releases this season. Because that's a heck of a way to promote the league. Ugh...

Cost/benefit analysis, Creighton. Not saying you're wrong...it's definitely VERY different from the actual Media Day. I attended the last several GLIAC Media Days before they went to the on-line version. Just a big(ish) expense that doesn't offer any direct fan interaction...

It's becoming the norm for several conferences.

Ah, but it could, if fans were invited.

Would be a completely different event at that point. Wouldn't be a "media" thing, would be a "fan" thing.

I didn't work in the GLIAC office, but I think a good portion of the decision stemmed from the cost of actually hosting an event (getting the space, was usually a luncheon so there was food involved, etc.) proving to return less than what the investment was. The local papers and TV stations for the towns/areas where are members are would get their interviews done, but those are pieces that could be accomplished locally. In other words, The Mining Gazette in Houghton can just as easily get their interviews with the Michigan Tech staff/players by driving over to campus vs. hauling down to Bay City (where the last few of these were held) to do it. And those folks were there, too...they made the trip. So, to save costs on both ends, it just seemed to make sense. One might see GV's coach be interviewed by someone from the Detroit papers/TV, but the "cross-pollination" of those markets was not overwhelmingly prevalent or present...at least not as far as I noticed. So, why have everyone take the time and pay the money for an event that didn't necessarily net more viewers or readership to the outlets that came?

Now, despite that lack of "cross-pollination", the fans would often ask to see content about the other teams. That said, they didn't really want to hunt all over the place to get it. Sometimes they could find it by Googling the local papers and TV stations for the towns of the other clubs, but that's a fair amount of work...and that work doesn't drive fan interaction/traffic to the GLIAC site. In today's environment, that traffic is a favorable outcome. The fans always wanted to see/hear what the coaches of the other teams had to say, but finding it was hard and the media outlets that might share it would edit it and one wouldn't necessarily get the entire speech. To help improve that interaction for the fan, the GLIAC started doing the videos. The videos (particularly when they were first being posted a few years ago) were semi-scripted by the league: "be sure to include these topics and/or answer these questions, so they all had a little symmetry. Once you've done that, include anything extra you want."

So, in looking at the goals of this shift, I'd say that the "Media Day" sites are actually doing what they set out to do: Provide a centralized portal for fan information and interaction, and save the costs (time and money) to the league, its members, and the media outlets that cover them.

Media events were cool for those of us in the media, but I can't honestly say they were a great investment. For the fan-bases at large, this vehicle is actually a pretty decent shift IMO. This is the direction where things seem to be headed, in particular for the smaller-demand market that is D2.
