That new eagle head logo is a massive step down from the old one.

With the split would there be a possibility of Purdue-Indianapolis picking athletics independent of the Indiana portion that is taking the D1 athletics?

That's highly doubtful, since Purdue-Indianapolis is only housing five buildings on the 120+ building IUPUI campus. I'd suspect that IU-I will be the sole athletics program on campus.

                EDIT: From the Indianapolis Star:

IU will provide certain administrative services for Purdue and maintain the intercollegiate athletic program.

                ....

Purdue will continue operating out of several buildings on the IUPUI campus. It hopes to eventually build a new dorm. At Friday's press conference, [Purdue President Mitch] Daniels said the vision is that students from Purdue's flagship West Lafayette campus would have opportunities to study at the Indianapolis campus for a year or two. [Purdue-Indianapolis] will not be treated as a regional campus [such as Purdue-Northwest or Purdue-Fort Wayne], he said, but rather as an extension of West Lafayette.
