Young Harris to Conference Carolinas next fall. YHC was always an odd fit in the mostly-public Peach Belt. https://conferencecarolinas.com/news...s-college.aspx

More than 70 teams have been announced to start in 2023, an increase of 50 since July 1. Two more schools have posted job openings for head coaches on future teams. This would be the highest number of new teams in the 6 years I have been tracking this. I have included the NCAA Emerging Sports for 3 years but the new non-Emerging teams for 2023 is still the most in the 6 years.
Young Harris College, Upper Iowa, and Bluefield State are switching conferences with Thomas More and Westmont College joining their new conferences. Holy Names will say goodbye.
Menlo College and Roosevelt are applying; will there be others like Nichols College and Utica for the NE10 or Vanguard and William Jessup for the PWC? Any news on the Texas State University System vote on Sul Ross State moving to the LSC. Jamestown seems to still be the frontrunner for the NSIC. It has already been speculated that California-Merced is working on a 2024 application to the CCAA.
I do still expect that Bowling will become a D2 championship sport and Acrobatics & Tumbling, Triathlon, and Women's Wrestling will become NCAA championship sports by 2026.Last edited by Tech Boys; 01-03-2023, 07:19 PM.

The SAC will not be sponsoring Men's Wrestling in 2023. Instead they will be affiliates of Carolinas with Allen, Bluefield State, and Montevallo added to current CC affiliate Lander.
This is disappointing; would have been nice to see two new wrestling conferences. It might have been a type of compromise since the SAC took sole sponsorship of Field Hockey with the three CC schools being SAC affiliates.
Both conferences have five full members with Men's Wrestling. The SAC could have added Bluefield State and Montevallo as affiliates with the CC adding Allen as an affiliate to give both conferences seven members.

As I recall, the deadline for applying for D2 membership was February 1, so we'll probably know by mid-April (or whenever the NCAA posts a report of the April D2 membership committee teleconference) which schools will be applying.Last edited by ctrabs74; 02-11-2023, 02:04 AM.Cal U (Pa.) This is the tweet that started the talk about Nichols College. The question for both them and Utica is finding a suitable solution for the hockey teams.
I believe the NE10 is the better fit for Utica than the ECC in sport sponsorship and being within the footprint. The average distance for Utica in the ECC is 236.0 and the longest trip is 385 to District of Columbia. In the NE10, the average distance is 212.5 and the longest trip is 298 to Saint Anselm College. Also, every NE10 school except Adelphi and Pace goes through Utica to get to Le Moyne College.
