I love the irony of that statement lol.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow night if Augie is DI material or not.

UNLV will be targeted for sure. They may look to get more than 2 more schools (4 to make it 10) and also venture into the central time zone. Being too spread out gets difficult, but having different markets and being able to start games earlier for TV windows matters. That would be a big sell for UTSA. Maybe even Tulsa, Rice and Tulane. Should be interesting to see who all ends up there. But it’ll still be a G5 conference rebranded.

Honestly surprised UNLV wasn’t already in the first group. Programs haven’t done much lately but Vegas money can always make them a sleeping giant.

Of course, with the way things are going, would anyone be surprised if a school like UConn gets an invite? Travel costs…what travel costs?

Rice? Seriously? The last time Minute Rice cared about football, the 610 Loop around Houston hadn't been built yet.

UConn would've been a better fit for the ACC when they went through the 2010-2014 era realignment, to be honest. If UConn ends up leaving the Big East (where, traditional Northeast rivals notwithstanding, they're the lone public school among a league of private, Catholic schools), then it would likely be to the Big 12 - though there seems to be a lot of pushback from XII fans about that move ever happening.

Yes, seriously. Colorado State got plucked and their program sucks too. Rice has money and a big market. I doubt they’re anywhere near the top, but I’d guess they are an option currently.

Would it happen to be the basketball fans?

I think that the best that might happen is you see an invite to move up for either of the Montana or Dakota's to the mountain West. I think it's going to be two or four schools that go because they can't wait for the ACC to break up it's either going to be Tulane Memphis UT San Antonio or UNT UNLV Air Force. Maybe Utah State thrown in. Will be a combination of that I think Tulane in Memphis are the obvious choices right now. North Texas and San Antonio are the better investments long-term. You're not 100% sure that calford or SMU doesn't make the return. So what we're going to end up with is a powerful a one and then a group of five conference

The changes will keep coming, but Cal/Stanford could make it back I just don't see why they would make the move to a different P5 just to jump back to the PAC and be a G5 member?
On that thought, I believe UTSA, and UNLV will be added. Potentially Utah State over UTSA. I would not doubt Gonzaga gets a call, and St. Mary's. They can work it out that they get no Football money but hold more of the Basketball stream if that entices them.

The swiping of the Montana/Dakota schools might just be one of the dominoes that would need to fall to have things open up some that would open up a slot for GVSU to go D1 in a few years. If the Missouri Valley looses the Dakota schools the remaining programs would probably want to add another team to the conference. Only other option that I could think of to those schools would be seeing if Nebraska-Omaha wants to restart their football program.

A lot of that seems to be coming from the football fans, considering the state of the UConn football program (such as it is). XII basketball fans seem to embrace the quality of competition, but their main concern is that UConn should join in all sports, not just hoops (as has been apparently rumored, depending on which source you believe).

That said, if the PAC could get those two back, it certainly helps add some legitimacy.

I've lost track of some of these teams ... where are the two Arizona schools now?
ASU and Arizona in Big 12 joining Utah and Colorado.

Seems short sighted to me. UConn is one of the premiere brands in college basketball (men's and women's).

My understanding is that the Nevada state legislature is trying to join UNLV at the hip with Nevada and wouldn't let them leave the MW without them. I'm sure they would've wanted to be in the first group too, but maybe they'll circle back around

Yeah, because that strategy worked out so well in Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Oregon, etc.

But when has that stopped other state legislators before?? :)
