  • OT: FCS Championship moving to Nashville

    https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/a...pionship-games

Effective for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, and being played in Vanderbilt's stadium. Looks like the D2 title is going to be the only college football championship played in the Greater DFW area for at least a couple years.

I've never been to either city before, so I guess I can't really speak too much on the decision, but on paper it seems like a cool move. Nothing against Frisco, but if I had to pick between visiting the two, I'd probably choose Nashville. Moving from a soccer stadium to an SEC stadium seems like it'll be cool for the players too.

Nashville would be a pretty decent option for a city to host the game. Pretty mild climate compared to say the GLIAC, PSAC, NSIC, MIAA, and RMAC, most likely contenders for sending a team there in the near future, and would be about the same climate for the SAC and GAC. The GSC and the more southern LSC teams might think its a little bit chilly, but it could be worse for them. Lots of stuff to do there, and there's a couple of stadiums there in Nashville that could be used between Vandy, the Titans, and I think there's a MLS stadium getting built down there as well soon. Hopefully one of them has a lot of covered seating there, as I don't see Nashville getting a dome or retractable roof stadium, would be nice, but might not be in the cards there right now.

My sister is moving to Nashville where her daughter lives. Hopefully South Dakota State will be playing in the FCS championship when it's held there. And hopefully this year too. Go Jacks!

The NFL's Tennessee Titans are intending to build a retractable roof stadium.

Must be I've missed that, if they do get that, it would be nothing but a plus for Nashville, other than I can't see them really just bidding on the D2 championship game there. Now if it was something like the FCS, D2, and D3 championships all on the same weekend, then there might be something there. Say like have FCS on Friday night, D3 on Saturday at noon, D2 in a night cap. One ticket gets you in all 3 games, but your game only allows you in the lower bowl for the first quarter of the games.

Nashville seems like a better destination than some dull soulless cookie cutter suburb of Dallas.

It's about time. I don't understand what is so appealing to FCS fans about Frisco - some really don't like the change. It looked awkward on TV, was not very convenient to get too - and it's Frisco. What is there to do in a town like that? Stare at cows?

Nashville is a much better option. I figured they should move it to Denver or Minneapolis though, since the entire division really only exists to serve 3-4 schools, none of which are near Tennessee or Texas.

Now if we could just get the D2 game out of a high school stadium, all will be right in the world.

Frisco, with a population of 225K, is a massively built up suburb north of Dallas (whose population in 2000 was 33K - a nearly seven-fold increase this century alone) is the home to the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters (The Star), the Dallas Stars headquarters and training center (Comerica Center, which hosted the D2 Men's Elite Eight in 2016), Toyota Stadium, which is about to be the former host of the FCS championship game and the PGA's new headquarters. There are also quite a few other attractions in Frisco, not to mention the Grandscape shopping and entertainment district to the west along the Sam Rayburn Tollway (State Highway 121) in The Colony/Lewisville area. I happen to live about 25 minutes west-southwest of Frisco, so I know the area quite well.

Nashville's new MLS stadium, Geodis Stadium, opened a couple of years ago. The Titans' new retractable roof stadium is slated to open in 2028. From what I read, Vandy's stadium is slated to host the FCS title game.

I don’t broadly disagree with this sentiment because I think the optics of playing at a HS stadium are poor but where would you suggest playing it instead?

But a high school stadium that nicer than 90 percent of the stadiums used in D2.

I'm sure it's a decent place to live for people who like suburbs, but aside from the weather I don't think it's much of a loss for us football fans who'd like to see the championship game without paying $1,000+/ticket.

Besides - Vandy, Bridgestone Arena, and Broadway are all in a 2-ish mile stretch of road. Wouldn't even have to uber around.

They didn't like football being played on their field - right up until Jayhawk money made itself available.

I thought that stadium was perfect for the D2 game - centrally located, about the right size, etc.

Slightly off topic, but the NJCAA National Championship game will be hosted by D2 West Texas A&M this Wednesday, on ESPNU. Kickoff 7:30 CST.
