I am really shocked that Bloom pulled the trigger so quick. PSAC schools don't have that kind of history.
52-28 in seven years. 2-time PSAC East COY. Regional COY. I'm just surprised they didn't give him more time.
National searches for a HC are always interesting. Though a few years ago when Bloom committed to a national search for a wrestling coach in their high profile program the search ended up being, let's say, less than national.

Sad to see. He deserved another year. There were a lot of unforeseen events this year that he had no control over. They should have pulled the plug on the men's basketball coach first or perhaps the wrestling coach. Perhaps Coach Hencile will get his turn as the HC. I am not happy.

Indirectly, there is some big change afoot at Bloomsburg. Last month the top two in Student Affairs (division where athletics lives) were abruptly fired.

As I have been saying on social media, I have very mixed feelings about this. As a Bloomsburg alum, I will always be grateful to Coach Darragh for 20+ years as a Husky. Bloom had so many great seasons and huge wins during his time as defensive coordinator and head coach. The memories I have from following Bloom all over the commonwealth and winning big games are very special to me. I know him to be an honorable man who does things the right way and I am sad to see it end this way for him. That said, I am not disappointed that this decision was made. I don't want to see the program slide any further. The first losing season in 20 years is hard to accept and I am glad to see the University acknowledge that it's not okay. I am a little bit surprised though. Overall, Darragh's record is still good and considering that Bloom has kept a mens basketball coach with a losing record for 12 seasons, I did not expect this to happen this year. Hopefully a change will be good. The program was definitely stagnant and not heading in the right direction. I'm sorry for Coach Darragh, but looking forward to a new beginning for Bloom football.

Bart, since you mentioned the BB and wrestling situations it makes me question the decision-making apparatus for Bloom athletics. Doesn't seem like a lot of sound judgment.

To me that says there were internal off the field issues or perhaps a big time donor is footing the bill.

As for Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Affairs being escorted off campus in October, there is no relationship to this story. By the way, the VP was a finalist for the Boro President job.

Pretty familiar with the Edinboro president search. She didn't match well with Edinboro faculty. They'll never respect a student affairs person. My point was that there has been a lot of key turnover since the new president arrived.

I think there is a lot of anger with the constant mediocrity that this program has had over the last few years. This is the right move. Bart, I get what you're saying and I think that Paul Darraugh is probably a good guy, but this is the correct move. We've lost too many guys from the program and our recruiting classes have been less than stellar. I really don't care what he had to face this year, because quite frankly even without that stuff there's no way they would compete with the top PSAC programs.
Finally we can bring in some coaches that will have a new perspective with fresh ideas. Particularly on offense. This isn't 1950 anymore. We need more than like the same 6 running plays. It's time we went all in on football again. It's always sunny in #HuskyNation

Bloom has no large donors, so throw that out. Darraugh ran a clean program and was loyal to the people around him. If anything, he could have replaced the OC. They let Darraugh stay for 23 years, so he should be able to collect a retirement, but they showed a member of the family no loyalty. The Bloom radio color guy has repeatedly said after watching Bloom football for 30 years, that this was the best coaching job he has seen there. The number of major injuries was unprecedented. The football team has soaked up a lot of money with the stadium upgrade and video scoreboard, and they expected to win the east every year. They raised 2 million dollars for football scholarships, yet their scholarships numbers remained at nine, probably because of Title IX. It's all about winning to show the money spent for physical upgrades was worth it, plus it is the only sport that draws alumni back to campus when they win.
