  • Another program bites the dust

The news is about a month old, but I just saw it today.

Malone University, a GMAC school in Canton, Ohio, which counted a 38-34 win over Millersville as one of its two victories in 2018, has done away with the football program. A roster of 116 out in the street.

And in a stunning display of SID whitewash, the school website trumpeted its star wideout's invitation to the NFL Combine without mentioning the program's demise.

Was he supposed to? Did his story about cancellation of the program include possible NFL futures?

Apples and oranges, by my estimation.

Neat bit of trivia that Malone's final D2 football win is against Millersville. Maybe not positive trivia, but trivia nonetheless.

There's suddenly a glut of private schools offering partial scholarship football in that region: Malone, Walsh, Ohio Dominican, Lake Erie, and Notre Dame College. Even with football aid those kids are still looking at paying $25-30k a year. Plus the Akron-Canton region isn't exactly thriving. Akron just offered buyouts to half its faculty.

I wonder if the gmac has any scholarship minimums or maximums

I know they require some administrative positions be stand alone - no coaching - will be interesting to see if private schools from MEC and PSAC with football look to play in an all private league

Many know-nothings comment on things they know nothing about on this very message board. You can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them...

I asked in one of the threads on the GMAC board if there was any interest (either way) in Gannon and Mercyhurst joining that league since it includes mostly private schools. I believe the response I got was that the GMAC is absolutely interested in adding Gannon and Mercyhurst. I forget if Seton Hill was included in the wish list or not.

I don't know. I guess to increase their membership, especially after losing Malone.

I get why it would interest the GMAC.

Why in the world would Seton Hill even consider a move?

I have no idea. I'll post the link below to the thread this is discussed. In my original question, I didn't even mention Seton Hill. They were brought up later.
