  • John Kuhn Nominated to NFL HOF

Just saw on the morning news that former Shippensburg fullback John Kuhn has been nominated for the NFL Hall of Fame.

For those newer in the last 25 years, Shippensburg had a great run in the very early 00s with Kuhn at fullback. UFA with the Steelers but ended the season on the roster and got a Super Bowl XL ring then another with the Packers.

Bloom's Jahri Evans on the nominee list of 167 again. https://www.profootballhof.com/news/...class-of-2025/

He was the Mike Alstott of D2.

When he'd break through the line you'd see DBs terrified.

I can only imagine him at LB in that era. He could have played both ways at an extremely high level.

Lee Woodall is on the list. He’s gotta be close to being a senior committee nominee.

Eli is an interesting first year nominee. No way he should be a first ballot guy, but he is a Manning, he won two rings and he beat the GOAT to get them. I won’t be a bit surprised if he makes it.

I agree, he shouldn't be a first ballot guy. I don't honestly think he's a HOF qb, but the name and the fact he beat Brady twice in super bowls seem to be giving him sway. He didn't have any signature season where anyone thought he was a top 5 qb in the NFL. I just don't think your are a HOF player if there isn't a stretch in your career where you were at least a top 3 guy at your own position.

In another world, you could make an argument he's just Jameis Winston with better PR/last name. Multiple seasons of 20+ ints. He averaged 1.5 turnovers a game for his career.

What an incredible honor for Kuhn though! Played against him twice, he was an absolute load to tackle. Brent Grimes was on that team too for Shippensburg. He had an outstanding NFL career as well, those Ship teams were tough as nails.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is absolutely watered down into a Hall of Very Good. A minimum of 4 guys getting in every year is too many. One of the only things I like about baseball’s hall of fame is that if no one gets enough votes, no one gets in that year. I don’t necessarily think football should get that extreme, nor would they since the Hall of Fame induction is basically a celebration to kick off a new season, but I’d personally drop the minimum to 2. And I’d put the first ballot guys in a separate wing reserved for the absolute best of the best.

Kuhn had a great college and NFL career. But I remember when he was a senior at Ship and IUP completely shut him down. He had something like 22 carries for 54 yards. It was the year Ship was supposed to beat IUP. Didn't happen. Was that Tort's defense?

I think he was just an assistant. Wasn't Tom Rogish the DC?

Kuhn was a great FB for Ship and then became a great FB in the NFL. Talk about a guy who made the most of his opportunities...Lee Woodall was a nother stellar PSAC player who had a decent career in the NFL. I remember meeting him bak when the PSAC Media Day was an in-person event. His body shape was unlike anything I had ever seen before. He was ripped from working out hard that Summer, and it showed...Jahri Evans had a HOF career after leaving Bloomsburg. He could arguably have had the best pro career of ANY PSAC alum.

Totally and from what I vaguely remember, very well liked by other teams and coaches. Kuhn played in the dying days of the fullback on Rocky's Wing T. In that era there were two NFL quality fullbacks in the PSAC West (Ship was in the PSAC West then), Kuhn and Matt Phillips from Edinboro. Kuhn made it, Phillips did not.

I hung out with Kuhn after they beat the crap out of us in 2004 I think it was. Genuinely a good dude and was a good party hang!

One guy I was shocked didn't get more of a look for professional football was a guy from ESU offensive guard. Last name was Munch I think. Was probably one of the strongest players I ever played against.

There were some incredible playmakers in that 03-09 era of the PSAC.

Greg Munch is now an assistant on the ESU staff...

I know IUP defense shut down a lot of running backs. I know Kuhn was shut down, and I remember Cates from cal coming to Indiana with a great rushing total. He left with something like 24 yards on 25 carries. Our defense shut him down,
