The surprising part is that I felt this was a down year for the Pee Sack…so yesterday was shocking.

True. SRU was not like light years ahead of the PSAC competition. They beat IUP and Kutztown by 1 pt. (KU in OT) and went 1-1 against Cal. I have never given up on the idea that the PSAC has a chance in the semis and yesterday's game confirmed that. I think that is especially true with the new portal environment.

A day after, still feeling good about yesterday's win. Even in the second half, it didn't feel like Rock was overmatched. Ferris still had a couple guys who Rock couldn't quite keep up with defensively. Chambliss and Katzer especially. But good line play gave Rock a chance on offense.

Worth noting that, even before the Ferris game, Massey had the PSAC with a pretty strong year. Right now, Massey has the PSAC at 5th among full conferences in average rating, only behind the MIAA, GLIAC, NSIC, and GSC. We got some key non-con wins (including Edinboro over RMU), and most of the games that the PSAC lost in non-conference were mostly our bad to mediocre teams against other conference's mediocre to good teams. And then, of course, the PSAC went unbeaten against other SR1 teams in the playoffs.

Hard to say if this is a trend or a one-off. But I think we see several programs making a concerted effort to improve performance in the portal world. Lock Haven being the obvious example, but Bloomsburg also improved a lot this past year, and ESU has definitely invested more in football under AD Dr. Snook. Clarion was also much improved, even if their record didn't reflect it because of a tough schedule.

I am a big believer in iron sharpening iron. If our average team improves, it will prepare our top teams better for the playoffs. I think this was the case in 2024.
