  • Ot: Hs wrestling at the kcac

I know there are some HS and College wrestling fans on here as well as people who don't follow it at all. But I just wanted to mention the HS tournament happening this weekend at the KCAC. It's called "Mid-Winter Mayhem." There are 53 HS teams competing in the varsity division. There are also JV and Girl's divisions. In all, there are over 1,000 individual competitors. Add in their coaches, families, and other fans and it's a big event. KCAC hosts a post-season wrestling tournament that is a national tournament, as well. I assume most attendees at both tournaments stay over in Indiana.

Currently, in varsity the semifinals are underway and private school Bishop McCort from Johnstown is absolutely dominating, as expected. I believe they are ranked #1 in the entire country. They are led by multiple time Jr. World champ Bo Bassett at 145 lbs. So long as Dalton Perry, from my merged high school, Central Mountain, makes it through the semis, Bassett and Perry will meet in the finals. Perry is a former PIAA champ and Jr. national champ. Bassett is heavily favored against everybody but it should be interesting.

Currently, Bishop McCort is leading 2nd place Central Mountain 201.5 to 114.5 in the team standings. 53 teams and McCort has 8 out of 13 wrestlers in the finals.

Not sure of the timing for the finals today but if you are local and want to see high quality HS Wrestling, go on over to the KCAC.

Well, scratch that finals matchup at 145. Perry (Central Mountain) lost to Bishop McCort's 2nd string wrestler (who was 8th in the state last year), so that will be an all-Bishop McCort final. teams can enter 15 wrestlers across 13 weight classes so McCort had 2 entries at that weight. FYI - Bishop McCort is the current poster child for the private/public debate in PA HS Wrestling. They compete in the smaller school division (AA).

HUGE economic booster for Indiana. Hotels are sold out. Restaurants were slammed last night (and tonight).

      Great event, too.

Imagine if it could host PIAA foosball playoff games with an upgraded foosball facility.

        Seems like a no brainer…

Yep, another complete joke and it’s not the first time McCort has done this, and in multiple sports.
