Many WPIAL schools now have metal detectors at their stadium gates in addition to increased security details. D1 has largely been doing this security measure for years.

Not a comfortable topic but it needs addressed at the D2 level.

Even at the D1 level, it's a challenge for some major conference schools just to get hand-held wands, let alone metal detectors. TCU was one of the most glaring examples as of a couple of years ago, but I'm hoping that's changed; all they had were bag checkers and that was it. Unfortunately, some schools are more concerned about aesthetics as opposed to security and public safety.

As for high schools, the larger school districts in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas bring in a third-party vendor to handle ticket scanning and/or patron screening (bag checks, wanding, etc.), though there are a couple of districts which use their own in-house security and supplement sporting events with on-call/flex staff (such as Arlington ISD). I would suspect that this could be tougher for smaller, rural school districts in Texas, however.

I was about a block away (outside) from the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017. I was on a work trip and was walking around in the evening. I wasn't at the concert but was outside very close by. Not a good night. I've been a little freaked out by large crowds ever since.

PNC Park has the skyline view. I always worry some nutjob will mimic what that idiot did in Las Vegas.

It's quite a screwed up world. This was a rough week.

Because, like it or not, that's the one roadblock to pulling off what you're suggesting, which I agree with in theory. Even some of the FCS schools down my way struggle to have fully staffed security at their football games (Tarleton State is about an hour and a half Fort Worth while East Texas A&M is about an hour away from Dallas; good luck trying to get staff from the larger cities to travel out to the hinterlands).
Yep, you're out of touch with reality! For the safety of your school, students, athletes, fans, etc. You find a way! The Erie City School District was in the red and they found a way!

No, I'm not out of touch. I work in this field (crowd/event management and security) so I have a better grasp on how the business rolls, thank you.

Well, then your priorities aren't in line. Safety comes first no matter the price!

It was a ghost town for the IUP game last season. No idea. That town is dead by 4 p.m. on Friday. That sure doesn't help. It seems the locals have quit following the team.

I was at a game there once and they announced like 9,900.

                      There was maybe 4,500.
