Would agree! if memory serves me correct, Mercyhurst did not give the PSAC advance notice and caught everyone off guard. Out of mutual respect, the Hurst should have primed the league officials of the potential move......no idea if there were informal discussions or not.

That is correct. The PSAC was totally caught off guard and there were some quotes from PSAC brass to that effect when it happened. I try not to root for people/entities to fail, but I sure haven’t been rooting for Hurst to succeed. It was a dumb idea for them to move “up” in the first place. The PSAC doesn’t need them.

I try not to root for people/entities to fail, but I sure haven’t been rooting for Hurst to succeed. It was a dumb idea for them to move “up” in the first place. The PSAC doesn’t need them.

I wouldn't say totally caught off guard because there have been rumors for a while. It was even mentioned on here in the weeks leading up to it. But it was all smoke and many (including myself) didn't believe Mercyhurst was in the financial position to carry D1.

Also worth clarifying that only men's hockey is being cut - they'll continue to have women's hockey.

The men’s team hasn’t made the NCAA tourney in 20 years, and the only publicity they’ve had in the last few years was a player pushing a guy’s wheelchair down a stairwell at a bar. Maybe they decided it just wasn’t worth the hassle now that they need more schollies for football and basketball.

West Florida is moving up per numerous reports.

Unlike the school in Erie, WFU can likely pull it off.

They didn't build that stadium to stay in the bus leagues.

West Florida will reunite with natural rivals in West Georgia and North Alabama in football. They get to play a bunch of other Florida schools in the other sports, like North Florida, Stetson, and FGCU. It's a move that makes a lot of sense for them and I think they'll find success.

Mercyhurst has no natural rivals in the NEC. Their closest rivals are Robert Morris for football, and Le Moyne for everything else. Yawn.

Expected to be announced by Friday. Joining the ASUN for all sports but UAC in football. The UAC is full of low revenue FCS programs and recent D2 upgrades like Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, West Georgia, etc.
