  • This ASUN/WAC/UAC scheme will end up leaving the ASUN with seven active members, so that could be a bit of a problem when it comes to being recognized as a D1 conference.

It's highly doubtful that DSU or VSU are in a financial position to make such a move.

Both conferences are actively looking to expand before 2026-27. I assume both want to be at 10 each.
        Go GSC and Roar LIONS!!

The sooner they do, the better; the UAC is at least at eight, which, unless I'm missing something, is the current threshold to be an active D1 all-sports conference. It's the ASUN who's probably going to be scrambling, unless they can pull some magic with the NCAA.

Both meet the the minimum of 7 for non-FBS D1 conferences. Plus, this doesn't take affect until a year from now. So, the Commish has time to expand both in the next couple of years.

That's almost certainly correct, but I am unsure of any other Southeastern schools with football that are ready

West Florida will have their new stadium completed within the next 3 years, and looking at the overall state of things, my feelings are now that they will make a change in the very near future. Also, based on what I'm hearing, VSU will remain in Division 2 as a football independent or start things new by joining an established regional conference (possibly for football only).

Unfortunately, I really don't forsee any long-term solutions as to where GSC as a football conference survives beyond the next year or two.

I'd put money down on West Florida

I think VSU can find itself in a new conference

I agree! At present, I'm not sure about Delta State. Not really presently seeing or hearing any of the schools being proactive while the clock's ticking............

I'm feeling more and more like we are starting to watch the GSC Football farewell tour this season (and possibly next).

                    • As long as they can schedule the required amount of games, I don’t see the GSC football teams ever needing this newly implemented AQ. It’s basically Earned Access with different wording.

Finding opponents (which they did for this upcoming season) is all that matters. Even if UWF goes, the GSC is stable in all other sports. The GSC football schools are in a unique situation, sure but it’s no reason for any of these schools to explore other conferences just yet.

                      • What about UNO? They are one of two non-football in the SLC? I don't see football being a priority in the ASUN anymore.
                        Go Bronchos!
