I hope Shorter finds something more workable. They've been trying GSC for almost 10 years, and when you can count your conference wins on one hand in a ten year time span, maybe it's time to try something else. Selfishly I want them to stay, but practically they need to do what is best for their students and university, and I have to believe there are better options for them. SAC or back to NAIA.

So looking at the evidence we have:
* UWG AD says changes are coming to the GSC that will affect the schedule, and members are both leaving and joining
* UWA advertises Week 8 opening, which seems to imply an odd number of GSC teams
* Chowan is set to announce a conference affiliation
* Conference Carolinas is set to make a "historic announcement", half an hour before Chowan's press conference
I haven't yet thought of an explanation that fits with all of these.

What are the chances of CC+GSC for football?
* Shorter to the PBC/SAC
* Remaining six GSC full members with football band together with the five CC football schools for an 11-team conference
It seems like it may fit the evidence... annoyingly, it would result in three 11-team conferences this season (GSC/CC, SAC, MEC). But the SAC would be back at 12 in 2024 with Anderson starting up.

NGU and Chowan are full members of Conference Carolinas. They are/were affiliate members of their respective football conference.RESPECT THE STATESMEN, FEAR THE OKRA!

Yeah, true. I was looking at this as a purely football announcement, not as an overall conference announcement. Makes sense to include them when all sports are taken into consideration.Originally posted by canadarican View Post

Shorter to SAC for football isn't as bad as Shorter to ConfCar for football, especially when three CC football schools (Barton, Chowan and UNC Pembroke) are within an hour or so drive from the I-95 corridor. But, yeah, it's still a pretty big hike.Originally posted by Inkblot View Post
Would SAC for football and PBC for everything else make sense? They're a ways outside the SAC footprint (like Barton).Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

If the SAC scraps divisions for basketball and everybody plays everybody twice that gives every SAC basketball school 24 games. Would only need to schedule 4 OOC. Shorter makes that 26 and 2.Originally posted by ctrabs74 View Post
Shorter would also get the SAC to 14 teams overall, so that might help with basketball scheduling, etc.
