It was just announced that Kim Pate, director of athletics has resigned (effective immediately) at LR. Anyone heard anything? Either she got a new job and gave zero notice or something bad happened.

I have no direct knowledge but have had conversations with a couple Bears Club members in the past who said they were surprised that she hadn't left for another job already, they even thought she might do something with the NCAA since she was a member on some of their committees. I am just assuming at this point that she has moved up to a better job somewhere else.

I'm sure some of the LR supporters that are members of this forum and in the know about anything LR know the real deal, but I haven't seen a few of them posting recently on any topics. I'd like to know the real story if she received an opportunity that was too good to pass or if it was indeed forced.

I know absolutely Nothing except what was on the LR Bear.Com site. I would doubt seriously that Kim was "forced" out. I mean, HOW? The success that LR has experienced in all its athletics, the fundraising, the most excellent group of coaches, the public support for the University in the Hickory Community. Every indication is that she and President Whit are on the same page on every issue. I just do not see it.
I can see that with her national recognition somebody was bound to make her an offer she could not turn down. And with Dr. Whit getting ready to retire......
I certainly hope that she will be moving upward and that it will be known shortly.

Bad business if she left for another job and did not give LR time to find an interim/begin their search in the middle of first semester IMO

This seems to say/indicate that another opportunity did come. I was about to post it but saw a copywrite to not do that.

Looks like LR has hired its intern AD, Roachel Laney, while the university starts its search for a permanent AD. Roachel has been the AD up the mountain at App State, spent time with the panthers, and the high country special Olympics. Laney seems capable and is certainly experienced.

So in today’s HDR there is a full page ad regarding a petition to have the AD reinstated by the Board of Trustees. So I guess my first thought is would she even want to come back? I guess they are implying that she was forced out, which is probably accurate but I haven’t heard the reason for this or even any rumors as to the reason for her sudden departure. The ad list all of the good things that happened under her leadership but doesn’t seem to imply why she left or was asked to leave. Maybe I’m missing something but why would anyone sign petition without knowing all of issues involved.

87Bear I read a post from someone on Facebook who was pushing the petition and it had nearly 500 signatures a couple of days ago. I didn't see any reasons related to why it happened other than Dr. Whitt was behind it and he is on his way out in a couple of months so a lot of people were saying he sholdn't be making decisions that had long term impacts to the school. Who knows the real story of what has went on/is going on, but there apparently are a lot of ticked off people over her departure and a lot that don't have much use for Dr. Whitt. If you search for Kim Pate on Facebook posts you can probably find the one I am referencing where the gentlemen gave a long disseration of what he thought about it and some other posts. I know LR deleted a lot of the stuff that was said directy on their page the first day or so after the announcement.
