Yeah, we need more post-season wins. Some more favorable draws will help with that (takes some luck) but then eliminating SILO scheduling will help us get more ready too. Having Delta State as an annual opponent would do a lot to help our situation as well imo

I honestly believe some of our post-season struggles have come from playing only one playoff ready team a season annually. Our guys would play tougher if we could schedule some better competition. We were never good enough to win it all but we’ve had a few years we could’ve made some deeper runs

I’ll play the other side of this coin for sake of conversation. I’m fine with the SILO scheduling. Sure, it’s a little stale playing the same teams every year but what would the top GAC schools gain by playing a higher tier OOC game?

So we play a random GSC or MIAA team, for what? To see how we stack up? To mix things up? HU will play 1 OOC playoff game on an average year and couple more on a good one. I think we generally stack up fine.

From a conference perspective - An undefeated GAC champ gets in, and a 1-loss GAC team gets in the playoffs 4 times out of 5. What does the GAC have to gain as long as there’s no punishment for it? There are only two teams on any given year that have a chance of even sniffing the field for a playoff game, why risk the representation of one of those by sending them on the road to Valdosta in week 3 for a conference measuring contest?

That being said I do think it would make the regular season more interesting, but I don’t particularly care one way or the other.

I tend to agree with Code Black. As I see it, the goal is to make the GAC stronger. Not get rid of the silo. I just don’t know how to do one without the other. With the exception of the bottom three or four teams right now, the GAC is as strong as the GSC and GLIAC and on par with the RMAC and possibly the now weakened LSC.

I think silo conferences should be barred from the playoffs altogether, or limited to one playoff berth. It hurts D2 as a whole and should be banned, or at least punished.

How hard can this be? Between the GAC, GSC and LSC there are 31 football schools (assuming WGU is gone from the GSC, VSU and WF stay and NE Oklahoma joins one of the conferences). All three conferences have overlapping geography to varying degrees. That means there can be two conferences where teams have 9 conference games and two OC games and one conference where teams have 10 conference games and 1 OC game. That removes the GAC silo and strengthens or stabilizes all three conferences. Remove CWU and WOU from the LSC and remove VSU and WF from the GSC and it get’s even more interesting.

Honest question here. I get having a preference. I don’t understand thinking everyone not complying with that preference should be penalized. Central Missouri’s 24 skd popped up on my phone today. They have scheduled Davenport as an out of conference game. Davenport went 8-2 but lost to Ferris by 3 scores and GV 38-0. UCM found a team with a decent record but no real chance of losing to. Davenport nearly (nothings for sure and that’s why you play the games) guaranteed themselves 3 L’s with an outside chance that they squeak a W out on one of the 3 and start yelling SOS as a 2 loss team - they really didn’t have anything to loose. All of that said. How does that game help make D2 football so much better that those not scheduling those games should be banned
from the playoffs?

Silos shrink the pool in a division where it's already hard to find games. Conferences who do it hurt the division as a whole.

I was referring to Northwestern Oklahoma State University, a member of the GAC. They do play although not that well in recent years.
