GAC Pick'em Week 1

Week 1 of the D2 Football is officially upon us, and therefore it's time to stop all the preseason talking and enjoy watching our teams battle it out on the gridiron.

BulldogLB has been gracious enough to do the GAC pick'em for us the past couple years and I hope he's doing well as I haven't heard/seen much from him. With that being said, I've always enjoyed doing the pick'em and wanted to keep the tradition going on the GAC Board especially since it's a short week. I'll do my best to keep up with the results and post it every week, but please be patient with me if I do get a little behind. Life is kinda crazy at my house. Enough of the talk, lets get to the pick'em.

A reminder of Pick'em Rules and how it works:

Picks must be in before Thursday Sept 5th at 6pm CST/7pm EST to be counted for the pick'em.

Reminder of the point system:

Correct Point Spread: 15 pts
Within 1 Point: 10 pts
Within 5 Points: 5 pts
Within 10 Points: 3 pts
Winner picked: 1 pts

Glad to hear from you BulldogLB! No worries at all, as job changes can get real crazy and am just glad to have you back on the board. I think I should be able to do the pick'em this year (already got my excel sheet up and running lol), so don't worry about it. I'll try to uphold the great standard you set before and allow you a breather with all things going on. If you want to take back over next year, you're more than welcome to!

Earlier this week I was excited and rushed to post my Pick’em scores and outcomes (I was the first to post picks - I was SO READY to get the season starter). I usually add some comments/reference as to what I think of the teams for each game so now I want to add thoughts as to what prompted each pick.

Being the first week there will be some settling that will occur for each team but for some teams that can be quick and even help to give the starting lineup a rest and have new players by the 4^th quarter. With that said here is my assessment of the games this week. Looks like an all Arkansas D2 teams victory party for week #1.


SAU is one of the strong “2^nd tier” teams in the league while SEO is working their way back to being a factor for each game of the season. A balanced game back and forth in the first half of the game. A strong offense and a good defense for SAU will be the difference here and a wearing down of the SEO front defense line will allow for SAU to put up more points in the second half.

Henderson is another strong “2^nd tier” team in the league and ECU is more settled in the middle of the pack. Too much power from HSU will make this a victory for them and backups will be playing by the 4^th quarter for the Reddies.

UAM is a question mark at this point, having lost a QB who was the difference maker, so it makes you wonder how strong they will be this season. Yet on the other hand is NWOk, a team which is seeking to find consistency and put together a season of ups and not downs. UAM will pull ahead and stay that way to the end but the score will be close as the Weevils will be working to find a rhythm in the game.

OBU is another strong “2^nd tier” team in the league with a history of being a Top of the Class (TOC) so this team wants to prove they are ready to be on top again. SWO is, well, in the same situation as NWOk. Should be decided by halftime with backups playing the rest of the game.

TECH vs OKBU are two question mark teams; who will show up and rise to the occasion. I think overall Tech is stronger but this would be the upset game of the week.

HARDING is the Top of the Class of this league right now and SNU is a struggle right now. BUT SNU seems to be a team that has been able to hang with the Bisons for a bit. Even with new Oline players to work into a unit I am sure the HU coaches will have them ready for this first game. HU leading big at half and brings in the back up players for the 2^nd half.
