  • SILO

I am going to go ahead and say it. Forming the GAC and going to a silo schedule was the best thing that has happened to my Bisons. We went from bottom dwellers in the GSC to king of the hill. I know a lot of fans are frustrated in the SOS and playing the same teams year in and out, but I think we need to recognize how this program was built. Going silo all but guaranteed the GAC playoff spots for teams that were not used to obtaining them. It helped Harding get exposure, which led to us building a roster as good as anyone in the country.
If everyone would take their blinders off, they could see that. Now going forward, the only team who would benefit from playing outside the conference is Harding. Why would NWOSU or ATU want to play outside the conference? HU created the blue print. I read on here this summer how everyone was shocked the ADs all voted for silo again. Is that really shocking when only one (possibly two) schools could benefit from playing another conference?

So GAC fans, stop belly aching and until the NCAA starts penalizing us for playing a Silo schedule, then let's continue to churn teams out to the playoffs. Maybe this is the year that OBU can finally make some noise in the post season and bring more respect to the conference... Who am I kidding, that's not going to happen. However, we will let them continue to ride the coattails of the Bisons for now!

Is this satire? It’s gotta be satire, right?
the conference was absolutely penalized by not getting a home playoff game. And you may not get one in SR4 as the only conference without OOC games.

The silo schedule needs to stop. A decade of facing the same teams every season got old a long time ago.

I agree but your reputation proceeds you in the playoffs. If Harding wins out, they get a home playoff game. I’m convinced that Harding made the playoffs in 17’ because we went to the 3rd round the year before and we blew out everyone after taking 3 losses in the first 3 games. If they like the way you play in the end of the season, they choose you over someone else if it’s a toss up.

Satire? Nope. It might hurt the MIAA, but gives teams in the GAC (not named Harding) a chance. Let me assure you that teams like SWOSU and SAU would much rather have a chance to make the dance rather than host a home playoff game. You have to understand the history of the GSC and LSC before knocking it in the GAC’s defense.
Figured I would join the board and rile the hornet nest up a little.

And for ATU, of course they are tired of playing the same teams for a decade. That’s a decade of getting their tails kicked by Searcy and Arkedelphia.

Eh. I'm not sure if the simply forming the new conference or making it a silo scheduling situation helped more. That and the flexbone happened at about the same time, which also helps you build a roster.

But I'm pretty sure the game is at Pittsburgh tomorrow instead of Searcy because of Pitt's OOC schedule.

Single most important factor was Coach Ronnie Huckeba. But forming a new conference without a doubt helped out. Essentially getting an auto bid for the conference champ (and most of the time runner up) helped as well.

My point isn’t that Harding is helped by Silo now (it’s not). It’s that without forming the GAC the way it was built, Harding might not be the power they are now. So stop bellyachin about it and understand where the ADs are coming from.

Win or lose, still tired of the silo. I want to play different teams.

I said it when the MIAA was in a silo. Silo conferences should be banned from the pist season. It hurts D2 as a whole, and makes it harder for teams to find noncon games.

SILO sure as heck isn't helping us. It just enables Harding fans to crack jokes about Ouachita's relative lack of post-season success to their two runs.

Again, there’s a solution for that issue. Win.

Fingers crossed we can do that today!

With the move to region 4 I hope something can be done with scheduling, even if it's just one week of OOC games. LSC teams have already scheduled MIAA teams this season and the games were good - I think it would be great to have GAC teams go to MIAA or LSC country or vice versa.

It would only happen if the GAC says you don’t have to play a conference opponent, or they lose a conference member.

I have heard some rumors that a GAC team or 2 has at least talked with the MIAA about membership. No idea which ones, though.
