  • The Battle of the Valleys

Good test for both GVSU and Saginaw Valley this coming Saturday. The Lakers have showed some flashes of brilliance but have yet to put together a complete game IMO. Seems they always have a letdown for one or two quarters. The offense has shown that it can score points at will when Cade’s throws are on point and the offensive line is making holes for the very talented stable of running backs to slip through. With the possible exception of the defensive backfield, the defense has been stout. D linemen and linebackers have shut down the run but the defensive backfield has showed some confusion at times and the 5 to 7 yard pass has been open over the middle all too often. Don’t know much about Saggy Valley other than they stayed in the game with that team up north last week. But then again, it’s easy to stay in the game when your opponent has 7 turnovers. Saginaw seems to bring their A game when the Lakers come to town but IMO it shouldn’t be close. Lakers 42. Saginaw 21. Your thoughts??

    SVSU's QB has a 48% completion percentage, 4 TD, and 8 INT.

    Yikes.

From what I hear, Sag plays a similar D to GVSU, stout upfront to stop the run . Not sure if anyone can stop Laker run game but they do have to show some consistency in the passing game . They need to find the TE’s across the middle more and throw at least 7-8 passes to Hunter Rison . He’s going to be something but he’s seeing the ball 2-3 times a game.
I also agree with you on GVSU defense across the middle not to
mention red zone D. They were #1 in the nation in red zone D in 2019, giving up yardage and points at a greater rate this year.

If lakers hang on to the ball and pass for 200, it’ll be a 2 TD win

SVSU looked great last week against Wayne State. They were never really threatened in the game and dominated a team that had Slippery Rock on the ropes in week 1. Ranked #1 in the country in forced turnovers SVSU will need a few more Saturday to pull the upset. GVSU has dominated the series recently but it seems every time the Lakers travel to SVSU its a close game. SVSU has arguable the best wide receiver group in the GLIAC with Chad Galliard, Casey Williams, and transfer Isaiah Johnson-Mack. QB play at SVSU has been below average but he seemed to take a step in the right direction against Wayne State. The hard early season schedule will have the Cardinals prepared as they won't be shocked by the talent at GVSU. I have the game as a toss up but will take GVSU in a close one 27-24.

IDK what to think about this one. SV is 11 points away from being 4-0 with maybe the best resumé in the country, but they really have been held back by subpar performance at QB as previously mentioned. If Considine can be a positive presence, this will be a game. If he can't and GV avoids turnovers they'll win by 14+.

Planning on heading there for the first time to catch the game. Where are the Laker fans tailgating at? Looking at purchasing my parking and want to purchase in the best lot.

GV led off the game with a 95-yard touchdown drive. SVSU driving on their first possession, though. At about the GV 35.

Long SV punt return puts the Cardinals back at the GV 33.

Allante Leapheart returns a blocked FG for a touchdown. GV now up 21-3.

GV defense kinda poops itself at the end of the half and SV scores on the last play of the half. 28-10 game at halftime, GV leads.
