That is quite interesting. I wonder if the NFL is the current employer or a past one? The way it’s worded, I’d imagine current. Seems very bizarre considering the salary discrepancy between NFL assistant and D2 college head coach. Unless we are going D1-FCS, which comes with a bit of a higher salary and the ability to build a D1 program.

It’s pretty vague. Biggest thing coming from it is that Billy was right that it did get NFL coach interest. Honestly, if GV were FBS, we’d have actual names of candidates by now.

It's just like the hiding of injuries. Just wild the lengths to which D2 programs go to be secretive compared to FBS lol.

Yea the guy was an assistant to the assistant in the NFL for a bit...and yes there are some D1 lower level assistants in play perhaps, but WHY do you put that on here unless you re trying to drive kids into the portal. I thought Billy liked GVSU...I guess I was wrong.

To be clear the exit was a bit earlier, but Limestone did okay with a January hire...

Yea, that's obviously a big difference. If you're the bottom of the pile, it doesn't really matter. But a successful program trying to replace a coach late in the recruiting cycle is going to do nothing but hurt. There's no positives that can come out of it in the immediate future.

That's something that has to be considered, though. GV is one game away from winning a national championship. You're on the cusp. Do you try and get over that bump to the title this next year by saving the current team and recruiting class? Or do you hire to punt the next 2-3 years and try and be competitive after that? If FCS is in the future, 2023/2024 might be the last chances to win national titles for a while. Maybe ever again.

Also, it's not only about the recruiting class. There's plenty of current, contributing team members who are also hinging on the decision.

It's just another person who thinks football is the only sport, and thinks that winning 4 national championships in 5 years should be a regular occurrence. Spoiled.

The mens bball hire is a joke, Womens soccer hire quit after a year (which is embarrassing for a national powerhouse). Not to mention having zero spine with the tailgating to stand up to GV PD. Then again we were spoiled with the last.
