Interesting how Ferris, a D2 football school, can attract D1 football players. Not just D1 football players, but ones that can then transfer to Power 4 major college football programs.

      Just crazy.

Almost every decent D2 school has this now. The best players all over D2 are getting poached by the largest FBS schools. Just the nature of what has been created. Some of them will be alright, most of them will find themselves as backups and rarely play again. Just wish more players understood that.

D2 has turned in to a farm system for D1. Now D1 gets a shot at the guys they missed in the first go around. Consequently, D3 now becomes a farm club for D2. On the flip side, every D2 player that leaves for D1 means that a D1 high school talent is left looking for someplace to play. Hence, the more competitive D2 schools are getting more D1 talent out of high school. But all this movement makes it hard for a coach predict his year to year roster and where his needs will be. Last year Davenports roster had 18 transfers. Quite chaotic. And don’t get me started on the money$$$. Word is that the Texas pay to play budget is around 40 million this year.

The Mid-Majors have no hope of competing at a national level with the Power 4, now making the case stronger for a reordering of the competition levels. Conferences like the MAC should move down to the D1 subdivision and some should consider D2. Grand Valley already averages a higher attendance than half the MAC. Are they making money?? Breaking even?? Doubt it.

Grand Valley is bigger than all but 3 MAC schools. What does that say.

But I agree, the divisional system is completely broke. In D1 you have FBS and FCS. But there are a number of FBS programs that should be FCS. And there are some FCS schools that need to be D2.

Hate this "farm system" concept. I get it. But the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer. Probably more evident in college baskeball where not as many athletes and if you got a quality player in a small D1 conference, they are going to get snapped up by a Power 4 school. Then the small D1 school poaches a D2 or NAIA player. So much churn. Hard to invest in any program where you have a large amount of roster turnover every year. No end to the madness.
