  • MIAA Expansion

Mike Racy on a local radio show yesterday talking conference expansion. What are everyone’s thoughts on possible schools interested in joining MIAA?

Sure would be nice to have a few non conference games to help with SOS.

    Great find!

Very interesting. Anybody have any idea of who would want to join? Seems more have been trying to get away from the MIAA than coming in? Especially if they have football.

I'd hate to see them venture too far from the current footprint. The trips between the north schools to the south schools are fairly long ones...not RMAC long, but long enough. East to west aren't nearly as bad as they were with Lindenwood.

Harding, AR tech, opsu, and nwosu fit well geographically, in the south, but the okie schools are awful at football.

Wayne neb, aggie and Sioux falls fit well in the north unless you want to t
lure the glvc schools back in, but again, awful football teams.

Think if you add schools you almost assuredly divide into a north and south division.

Think almost every Missouri school has been apart of the miaa at some point and left, you already have all of the Kansas schools. Like pp said that leaves you with picking up the okie schools or northern Arkansas teams or going north into the dakotas and grabbing Wayne.

I don’t think any of the kcac naia schools are looking to move up however I think Friends would make a good addition as far as getting a school in the Wichita metro that plays football.

A string in the NSIC board talks about Augustana wanting to go D1. Would think it would be attractive for Wayne St and even Sioux Falls. Would you rather go up north or south to play if your those schools.

Is have to break out a map but I’d assume that even if we had a north and south division the travel times would increase significantly for Sioux Falls.

Or....Pitt, Southern, NSU, and UCO could join the gac, and talk DSU into going with them. Then the miaa can bring in the GLVC mo schools and several conferences will get weaker.

That seems to be what the guys in general discussion want. Universal mediocrity.

There are several teams in the southern part of the nsic that could be a fit for an miaa north setup.

Broke out an nsic map — if augustana goes D1 — usf and Wayne would be good additions for a miaa north. They’d likely still have some longer drives even in the northern divison.

North- usf, Wayne, UNK, fhsu, nwms, mwsu.
South- pitt, UCO, Lincoln, mssu neosu, emporia

Without doing the math I’m not sure who would be a better fit where as far as ucm and washburn.

means you’d have 6 games for your division and 3/4 cross overs and 1-2 ooc

north division think you could partner with nsic, gliac or glvc for games.

south think you go GAC and LSIC

I enjoyed the drives to Southern and NSU, and look forward to seeing the atmosphere at Pitt and UCO. Would rather add to what we have. Don’t know of any NAIA teams making a jump, but those would be an option too. Morningside likely enjoys winning the GPAC every year and showing off their rings. Peru St hasn’t been great, but building an indoor facility and pumping some cash into things there.

You also would have to figure out how to define the champion. NSIC had Wayne as a co overall champion but didn’t win their division….

We need to go the other way-cut to 10 teams(drop LU/UCO goes FCS and voila 9 conf games/2 non cons again)

This right here is the way to go. If they do expand they should have to make a corresponding move to eliminate the teams who can’t compete.

Wayne and Chadron are two NE schools I wouldn’t mind playing every year
