The Bods D will have to avoid over-penetrating like Pitt did, and may even put a safety at OLB to spy that QB so he can't step up and out like Pitt let him do at least 36 times.

Plan a zone defense. It will negate all that crossing stuff and prevent Z from running for 100 yards. The front 3 was getting pressure on him and occasionally bring 4 at him. UCM relies on defenses to chase the WR. Play zone and keep the run after catch to a minimal. IMO.

So much depends on your defensive scheme. If you're a zone team, you've practiced it a ton and Lambo better have a plan for that. If you stay man-to-man, then the crossing stuff and Z running will become a factor. Does Washburn have the people up front to rush only three or do they have to bring four or five to get pressure? If Washburn plays light in the box do the Mules have the ability to run the ball? So many questions and it is refreshing for the Mules to be competitive again since it has been since 2019 that we are worth watching.

Hopefully a team or two figures out how to stone UCM. If not, the whole conference will be running that sideshow offense instead of playing defense.

                58 - 28 (final)

UCM scored on 8 straight possessions.

This one really does not surprise me to be honest. After the Bods played a relatively tight one with the Lincoln last week, knew UCM had the potential to blow this one open.

I think the Bods must be playing a lot of younger guys.

                    UCM -Total 652 yds
Rushing 282 yds on 23 att.
Passing (ZZ) 40 of 48 for 370 yds with 5 td and 1 int.

Slow start by UCM. If not for turnovers early, the score could have been a lot worse.
i also think WU must have a real young team on the field.

ZZ was again spreading the ball around with 5 touchdowns to 5 different receivers with 12 guys catching at least 1 pass.

The punter got the day off as the Mules punted zero times.

You're right, the first quarter and a half were awful for the UCM offense.

                          2 fumbles lost.
                          1 pass intercepted.
2 missed extra points in a row. (he took a seat)
2 snaps in a row fired over the quarterback's head. (he took a seat)
                          Penalties out the ying yang.

All those mistakes by the UCM offense and the Bods still didn't do much with the opportunities.

Cedric Case (QB), the starter last year and game one this year, is back from injury. So, at least if ZZ gets dinged, we have a good experienced QB to take over.

UCM rushed for 282 yards for a 12-yard average, aided by two long runs of 65 and 55 yards.

Yeah. They are extremely young on defense. They returned a good Qb and oline, but not much else on O. Then the qb got hurt. They're definitely down this season.
