Yep. I was there. WT could not stop ACU's RB, AA Bernard Scott. He had 409 yds rushing and multiple long TDs among the 7 he had that day. One of the craziest games I ever watched.

Several years ago there was about a 5 minute video out there with all the scoring plays but must have been deleted.Last edited by Buffalo/Islander Alum; 08-01-2025, 07:35 AM.

ACU was 11-0 after beating WT and had the best chance in 2007-2008 of any LSC team during that time to advance out of that region.
ACU had RB Bernard Scott who later played for the Bengals and WR Johnny Knox who later started for the Bears. Knox made his mark on MNF by badly beating Charles Woodson downfield on a TD pass his rookie year. Sadly he was injured shortly after and had to retire.
Dealing with those two guys with a mediocre D2 defense wasnt going to happen.
WT had Keith Null at QB who started for the Rams and I think Charly martin at WR played in the NFL as well.
WT had several peeps a few years later from the 2013 team (?) play in the NFL (Braman, Khiry Robinson, Westbrooks, and a couple of WR's I dont recall).
The main reason ACU was able to get to 93 points is Carthel realized that his defense had no shot in hades stopping ACU so he on-side kicked every time WT scored. This put ACU in a position to score in 1 or 2 plays from scrimmage every time.
They had beaten NW Missouri State badly on their home field the first game of the year and it was wrongfully assumed they were going to do it again the next week in Abilene to end their regional reign.
Of course NWMSU used their playoff experience winning that game and then advanced to the nation championship game a couple of weeks later.
Ironically the game before this WT beat Central Washington first round of the playoffs which was bantered about earlier in the thread.
Sadly with NIL you are unlikely to see multiple NFL future talents like that play in the same D2 football game.

Yeah, it was quite the shootout. ACU won because they scored in 3 plays and it was taking WT 5 plays to score. As I recall, ACU had a shot to get to 100, but they didn't quite get it when time ran out.

They sure as he!! tried. WT kicked off with a few seconds left on the clock. Instead of kneeling down, the ACU guy took off but was tackled around midfield. That sparked a few fights at the end of the game.
Charlie Martin was in the NFL for 5 years, mainly on special teams.

It is kind of nice to throw those words back. So many condescending WT fans spoke those words to me about Angelo back in '09 -'12.
I am enjoying watching the "crow eating" . 😂😂😂
