The big word is "IF" they can win it. I'm not so sure.

Dude, Simon Fraser's defunct team could have beat the 2023 team that CWU played. lol

Western Oregon's second non conference game is at Cal Poly on 9-13. That just leaves Central Washington left but likely return game at home against Mesa.

I would bet that we can put together a bunch of us middle-aged guys from the message board and at least get a couple scores.

That 92-0 game still irritates me, especially since Lincoln doesn’t seem to be concerned with improving the program. It’s a safety hazard for those kids.

Anyway, did a little digging and it turns out Simon Fraser had recently driven the final nail into the coffin that holds their football program. Oh well.

What was that nail? Or was it something similar to what Western Washington had when a handful of motivated alums and students tried to spearhead funding for the program?

Lincoln did briefly go up 6-0 On West Georgia last year. Of course in true Lincoln fashion their XP was blocked and ran back for 2 points.

They had a WR that scored several touchdowns against several teams which accounted for most of their scoring.

That being said I am not sure they could even beat a D3 school at this stage.

To Lincoln's credit, they actually do have a couple of wins under their belt: they beat D3 Willamette in 2021, and they beat D3 Hilbert and D2 Bluefield State (ouch...) in 2022. They actually stomped Hilbert 70-0, if you can believe it.

Of those though, Willamette hasn't gotten more than 3 wins in a season since 2014, and the other two had just restarted their programs and were playing their first and second ever seasons, respectively. So that's about the skill level that the Oaklanders are at

I figured UTRGV would have them as their program opening game, but in looking at their schedule, they decided to open with Sul Ross, followed by PVAM, North American and Texas Wesleyan.

North American recently shut down their program, so UTRGV might have a new open week soon.

                      They announced it in January:

That game would have taken place on 9/13. That might have made sense for Lincoln to take that open date if they werent already playing Arkansas-Pine Bluff since they are already in Texas to play Kingsville on 9/6. Too bad this didnt line up for both Kingsville and UTRGV to play each other.

My understanding is that UTRGV was unwilling to schedule us at any point prior to 2027.

I imagine it is to give them time to build the program somewhat.
