What do scholarships really cost? It is an accounting item. And if a school gives the full limit of 36 scholarships, they have the equivalent of 64 student athletes paying full pop.

The accounting part of things is the key. There is no transfer of funds as far as I know.

All would seem to be a better fit . All three have NAIA to 10 ranked football programs and overall competitive athletic departments . Des Moines and Sioux City are metro areas and Northwestern seems to have great financial support. What is the advantage for Jamestown to make the move? Seems like a really small school that would have to spend a lot more money on athletics.
Morningside left the D2 NCC because they were the bottom feeder. Now they have been national champions and enjoy their success. Talking to one of their coaches pre-Covid, he said that they have zero interest in joining the NSIC. However, I suppose things could change- but the three schools that you mentioned probably are more interested in continued success than moving to D2.

The understanding is that they have no interest in leaving NAIA at this time

We just got the chance to not get damaged by 0-11 football programs on our SOS and now we are going to invite a school in to take it's place?
Zimmy21, you speak the truth about UJ not offering much value to the league. Another school getting spanked every week is not what the NSIC needs or should invite.

Interesting article. They are in a tough spot- Dickenson could go with the Frontier, but Valley City and Mayville are on an NAIA island. D3 or D2 wouldn't be an easy change.

Unless they went D3 and get into the UMAC. Just looking up some things since my experience with it, and that conference is still just awful

All the girls are getting dolled up with hopes of the NSIC asking them to prom.
Just going to bump this hot take to match up with that article.

i know where this is all seemingly headed and i absolutely hate it.

                    • If you're implying more stragglers added into the conference for security, I can only see two options going forward.

The NSIC splits in two, with the MN schools, Augie and USF, maybe Wayne on their own, 12 schools 10 with football.
Then the remaining schools with Northern, Minot, Mary, Jamestown, and the remnants of the Northstar 4. Makes 8 all sponsoring football. You'd need 2 more to be compliant for a new conference, so Black Hills State, and SD Mines would be a great add.

The other outcome is less likely but Augie and Mankato start looking at Pioneer football, or somehow get the Summit to sponsor football. They run the MVFC, there's no need for them to be in there anymore with UST, and a potential add of Mankato and/or Augie. Hell maybe Omaha adds football again. That would make 8.

I think think a conference has to be based up a atate/region but the way everyone talks it has to be the only way to divide things up...

On a side note, I find it entertaining that everyone pushes for non-conference games (which take you far away once a year or every other year) but are paranoid to add anyone to the conference who would also take you far away once a year or every other year.)

If we get left in a DAC10 2.0 my level of interest is going to drop like a rock.

An OOC football game is one visit a year, a new conference opponent is potentially multiple visits a year for an athletic department.

I get your point though and agree with it.

This is exactly a big reason why Jamestown would want to join the NSIC. It honestly makes a ton of sense for them. You can argue it makes less sense for the NSIC, and you're right. Also, let's consider this...all of the whining around Jamestown has to do with football. Did we forget that football is no longer required for NSIC inclusion? Now while I doubt that the Jimmies would drop football in a D2 move, it is a possibility.

We are going to need you to post on the all-other-sports message board..this one is for football. haha!

If the NSIC is going to add another member it would make a lot more sense if they played both football and basketball to fill a #'s need.

Anyone who says Jamestown needs the NSIC more than the NSIC needs UJ is right..given their location and spot in the old DAC landscape. I think the conference could get by ok with adding them..other DAC'ish schools..well, that's a slippery slope here. I'm not sure I'd see the reasoning on the NSIC's side for that..as it's already a good sized conference in terms of member count.

Keep in mind they'll need 75% of the conference votes to get in the league whenever that would come up.
