For the first time since Schmidt has been there Northern only lost two or three guys to the portal. That’s a good sign.

While it's almost certainly not done yet, that is good portal news for the Wolves. I really do think Schmidt has evolved his process on how he wants to build a program at NSU. I look forward to seeing what he does this offseason. Expectations will undoubtedly be higher going into next season.

The NSIC appears to be much more balanced than in years past. While the conference doesn't appear to have one dominant team it also doesn't have as many bottom feeders either. There used to be a handful of teams that were guaranteed wins, this year it was really only SMSU and Mary. The middle of the conference appears to be stronger than it was a decade ago with many of those teams knocking of the top teams throughout the year.

You're correct. We played very well in 1-score games this year and that no doubt could have turned a 6-5 season into a 3-8 season pretty easily. Had the close games gone the other way, the second part about potentially making the playoffs wouldn't be relevant. The only year NSU has even got to consider "playoffs" was in 2014 when we went 8-3, but even a 10-1 USF didn't make the playoffs that year so 8-3 was no hope. It was merrily just a statement to think playoffs could have been a possibility after the season we went through and everyone was ready to fire Coach Schmidt 4 games in.

When the Wolves played Augustana early the season I thought they were awful, good to see they turned their season around. Really liked running back Hank Kraft. Next season could be your playoff year.

While true, it’s a wild deal to only consider what happens with that close loss. Flip that one around, but wouldn’t be just as easy to slip one or more of the close wins? ( Winona-6, Bemidji-1, UMD-3, Concordia-1)

NSU has a great facility, it will be interesting to see how things shake out with transfers (in or out), recruiting, and player health, and coaching staff movement.

And the wild part.. if we take care of Minot we’re probably sitting in the 7 spot of the regional rankings, watching some games closely this week while on bye for a spot in the playoffs.

Going to need to get a few playmakers at WR, and fill in the secondary on defense. I like the improvement Britt made throughout the year and think with his athleticism he is a dynamic option to carry into next year. I personally wouldn’t spend up any scholarships on transfer QBs this year and would like to see us go get him some weapons on the outside.
