Bemidji's all conference d-end/rush, Tyler Sappit received a football "opportunity" from somewhere, so he entered the portal yesterday. He should be announcing his new school soon.
Last year, Bemidji had big DL Eli Coenen who left in the spring, visited and was offered by Baylor and Illinois...he went to Illinois and played all season for them. He recently entered the portal again and will be on the move again this year.
It's all so interesting to follow

Seems to mirror ‘the real world’. Loyalty isn’t much rewarded by many large companies, so the way to get ahead (especially early in your career) is to job jump. Apparently the NCAA actually really is getting students ready for life after college!! 😆Originally posted by CollegeFBGuy View PostBemidji's all conference d-end/rush, Tyler Sappit received a football "opportunity" from somewhere, so he entered the portal yesterday. Sounds like USD made the call on Sappit and he will likely go there. The chance to go from the NSIC to FCS or above might be a good recruiting edge for our teams, as mentioned above. It seems like most teams have had a guy or a few guys move up the progression, either to FCS or even to the B1G.

And they probably aren’t asking for the world in NIL. I know Iowa State to almost start from scratch in their OL room.Originally posted by Matt Witwicki View PostWith some schools like Iowa State having a fair amount of guys heading to Penn State (with the HC), they are needing quality bodies that have been proven in college gameplay and that's when we see D2 guys getting those offers. The hard part to know is....are those players good enough to see the field on the regular basis or will they just be depth guys. Often times my fear is the depth needs.

One of our coaches was tweeting support for PK's signing - made me think of your post again.Originally posted by Stanger86 View PostIt feels gross, but I wonder if any programs will begin to use the transfer portal as a recruiting tool, almost as if it's a JUCO feeder program. "Come here and help us by playing well for a year or two, you might get ____ offers at that time."
Might have been genuine support, but definitely had a "see what we did here? Come play for us" kinda vibe.

Might be a little bit of both, but it seems like genuine support out of Marshall....Originally posted by SW_Mustang View Post

"Parker put himself into a strong position like this," Underwood told St. Cloud LIVE on Tuesday, Jan. 6. "He came here as a redshirt and developed into the player he is now. He had five interceptions (as a redshirt freshman) and eight this past season. He put himself on the radar and led all divisions in interceptions for most of this season. He has great football acumen. He's one of the smartest defensive backs I've ever coached.
"He puts in a lot of film study, understands defenses and knows that piece so well. And, his hand-eye coordination is top-notch. He makes interceptions in traffic and is always in the right spot. Some if it is the coaching, but more of it is him putting in the work to get to this level."

It’s my belief the portal is proving what the vast majority of us already think, but generally don’t say out loud too often…
The lines between good D2 players and FCS (even FBS) caliber players are very blurry. Elite FBS is of course another level entirely, but we get the opportunity to see some damn good players.

Absolutely. It's often about funding and depth of talent more than anything.Originally posted by Purple Mav Man View PostIt’s my belief the portal is proving what the vast majority of us already think, but generally don’t say out loud too often…

I was thinking about that - I can see some of that happening, but I always thought D3 had a lot of academic appeal that D2 doesn't have. A solid player at Carleton might not be as interested in moving to D2 as a solid player at SMSU is interested in going D1, if that makes sense.Originally posted by Matt Witwicki View PostI'm waiting to see more NAIA and D3 guys move into D2. Seems like that would be the next thing..naturally.
It will be interesting to see what happens either way.

Yeah, I think it was meant to be genuine (Bullerman's tweet), it just kinda read like an advertisement. I think what caught me off guard is seeing a coach be publicly supportive of a departing player, I don't think I've seen it before (aside from the usual media-trained pleasantries).Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post

Then again - it would be kind of a low thing not to be supportive. The guy worked hard, gave us our all, left on good terms for an opportunity he clearly earned. No reason not to support something like that.
