With the way the landscape has changed with the portal, if any of the fringe D-I players have any type of success, they are most likely gone to the FCS (and maybe, maybe FBS). D-II is being reduced to nothing but the "minor leagues" for D-I.Originally posted by UMary1 View PostI am very curious to see how UMary's full scholarship funding for athletics affects their recruiting. 4-7 this year with 3 games lost by 4 points or less is a great foundation, historically they have always recruited Vegas, California and Texas. As mentioned above that really affects chemistry to a degree, will there be a shift to offer full scholarships to fringe D1 talent around the midwest, only time will tell but so far it looks like offers are going all over the country. With a 4-7 finish this year I can see Mary improving to 6-5, 7-4, with the right signings even 8-3. I was impressed with their OC and think some pieces will earn that record.
You if do land them, enjoy them while they are there!Millsy

You're correct, the portal has changed the landscape of college football, and not necessarily for the better.Originally posted by Millsy View Post

I assisted with the recruitment process for a couple or years, and most people don't see the time and expense invested by schools in recruiting and signing quality players which fit best with a program.
I'm proposing to the NCAA that a recruitment reimbursement clause be immediately put in place that if any player (who played a minimum of 4 games during the past season) decides to enter the transfer portal pay the school a reimbursement fee of 10 thousand dollars to jump ship.
This reimbursement fee could either be paid by the program the player is transferring to, or by the player before they can play a single down for any NCAA recognize school of any division.

To clarify, FWIW, the NSIC has gone back to having a North and a South All Conference Team. The South is a bit better top to bottom than the North. So in the North Division, he was a second teamer..and a very solid contributor with nearly 40 tackles and 5 TFL's..and had 6 stops in their playoff loss to Ashland. He's a shorter defensive lineman at 6ft..but at 290 lbs is very much the kinda sturdy guy that Harding will seemingly have in the middle of their 4 man front. Per their roster page it looks like he's got 2 years left..as he's competed on the field in just those two seasons. If I recall correct via social media Harding had their interior DL in the portal..and if that's the case, he becomes a real needed pickup for them.Originally posted by OldBison View PostI noticed Harding picked up Allen Pearson (6 ft, 290 lb, DL) from UMD. What can you tell me about him? I noticed on the NSIC board he was 2nd Team All- NSIC. Is he a junior with only 1 year of eligibility left?

Solid player and a really good kid. Also played FB for Duluth on short yardage plays.Originally posted by OldBison View PostI noticed Harding picked up Allen Pearson (6 ft, 290 lb, DL) from UMD.
