Beats me.

FS82: Is this one of those 'procedural' things where they have to open the job in his contract year? If memory serves me correctly they only gave him a one-year deal when they lifted the interim tag mid-way last season.

If it's not just a procedural item and he really is gone ... that's shocking. No idea what happens behind closed doors but, man, they seemed to have a whole new (positive) identity under Grady. I always questioned how you could just fire KR for a laundry list of items yet his long-time assistant was given a free pass?

I know they are having a pretty down (.500 type) season, but you'd surely expect he'd get at least two years.


As for candidates ... who knows. SRU is a nice job. The facilities are kind of blah but it's a nice town, growing enrollment, etc.


And, before IUP24 starts the campaign, ... #FREEKEVINREYNOLDS is not coming back. LOL.

Double overtime. From the box score, it looks like a letdown performance. I wonder how much of that was the result of clinching the division on Wednesday. Interesting thing is that the Raiders generally have played better on the road than at home this year, which certainly is a reversal of years past. For some reason, they seem to be getting little, if any, advantage in foul calls at home this season. It'll be interesting to see how the last three games go.

On paper, anyway, tomorrow's overall lineup may be the worst of the season. But, sometimes days packed with perceived blowouts turn out to be exciting.

Gannon at IUP - The Golden Knights were a hot team prior to Wednesday's home loss to bitter rival Mercyhurst. Things get worse tomorrow. Gannon will be the guest of honor in what will be a filled up and raucous KCAC. IUP very rarely loses at home -- in particular on Saturday nights -- and is expecting a crowd near 4,000. Kelvin Jefferson will not get a warm introduction to the KCAC. The Crimson Hawks are coming off a big, emotional road win at California and should feed off the crowd again much like a week ago. IUP won the first meeting, 85-64, inside the Hammermill. The game was close for about 30 minutes until the Hawks went nuts in the final 10 minutes. This game should be closer than the first meeting, but it could take a similar path. Look for Gannon to hang tight for 25-30 minutes, but IUP to pull away down the stretch. IUP's offense gets the hype, but it's the defense that has won them so many games. The Knights have to survive the atmosphere and not get rattled before the game even starts (see SRU). IUP wins in the final 10 minutes. Hawks -9

Bloomsburg at West Chester - Since Jan. 8, West Chester's record is 2-8. Epic collapse. Included in that free-fall was a 102-89 loss at Bloomsburg. Allowing the Huskies to hit three digits in itself is a catastrophe. From the outside it's hard to come up with an explanation. The only certainty is something went very wrong. It's the same team. Same players. Same coaches. No major injuries. More recently, WCU was embarrassed at Shippensburg and lost a tight one at Shepherd. Bloomsburg has lost 4 of its past 5 games. Something has to give here. The only opponent either can beat as of late is Mansfield. Tough pick. West Chester has to win this game at home, right? Probably. Maybe. Rams -1

Seton Hill at Slippery Rock - The Rock is coming off a spirited upset of UPJ. Seton Hill can see the finish line. This won't be a work of art, but SRU leaves Greensburg with a win. Micah Till should have a statistical bonanza. Rock -13

California at Edinboro - The Fighting Scots aren't as big of a push-over now that Anthony Coleman has returned. That said, his temper-tantrum technical foul late in the Clarion loss the other night surely didn't help his team. But, he is a legit player and instantly takes heat off of Jaryn Simpson and Trey Staunch. Cal has lost two straight games, so this trip to McComb is coming at the perfect time. It's probably safe to assume the Vulcans could come out a little sluggish after the emotional IUP loss. That may linger for the first half. Edinboro will score some points but run out of steam. When it's over, Cal should have a convincing win added to the resume. It won't be another 40-point massacre like the first meeting, but it won't be pretty, either. Vulcans -18

Shepherd at Kutztown - One of the more intriguing games of the lineup. Both have showed they can play -- on some nights. Both have showed they can just not show up, too. The Golden Bears gave East Stroudsburg quite the tussle before falling in double overtime this week. Shepherd has won two straight and is now tied with Lock Haven for the final conference tournament spot. The Rams' upcoming schedule isn't friendly, so this is a must-win. Here's a telling stat about Shepherd: The Rams are 9-4 at home -- and just 2-8 on the road. That's not a coincidence. The Rams live and die with the trey -- and they just don't shoot it well away from home. Kutztown gets the home win. Golden Bears -5

Mansfield at Millersville - One losing streak is going to end. That's the only certainty in this game. The Marauders went from red hot to ice cold -- and have lost 3 straight. Mansfield has been beaten to a pulp in its last two games. Millersville, a strong candidate for the seasons most underachieving team, at least has something to play for tomorrow. That's the difference. The 'Ville ends the misery. Marauders -18

Clarion at Pitt-Johnstown - Typically, in mid-February when you see a 19-6 team going up against a 5-19 club, ... you don't expect much of a game. That may not be the case tomorrow in Johnstown. This is a UPJ team that is just 4-3 in its past 7 games -- and a team that has struggled all year against big, physical teams. Keep in mind Clarion took the Mountain Cats to the wire this year before falling in the final seconds, 67-64. UPJ has won 8 games this year by 8 points or less. Did yet another late-game altercation (and technical foul) cost UPJ a game inside Morrow Field House the other night? Perhaps. That stuff just cannot keep coming from your senior star player. And, Clarion's better-than-you-think Stevan Rodriguez is the perfect instigator to agitate Josh Wise. This is certainly the UPSET ALERT game of the day. UPJ, traditionally, is very good at home. That makes the difference -- but it won't be easy. UPJ -6

Lock Haven at Shippensburg - The Bald Eagles blew out Kutztown in their last outing. They've also had a week to prepare for this visit to Shippensburg. It likely won't matter. The Bald Eagles' defense doesn't pressure enough to disrupt the Raiders' offense. The two teams who most recently defeated Shippensburg both press -- ESU all night and Fairmont State much of the game. Lock Haven doesn't have the depth to run the press. In a half-court game, Shippensburg will destroy them. Raiders -18

The PSAC should just list on their site that IUP clinched the 1 seed.

Their odds are pretty good right now.

The race for the No. 2 seed is fantastic. Mercyhurst and UPJ are both 13-5 in conference play. Cal is one game back at 11-6 and Gannon is 11-7. SRU is pretty much locked in at No. 6 as it is currently 3 games out of the No. 5 seed.

Lot of head-to-heads remaining among teams 2-6.

If I had to bet how the Top 6 finish:

1. IUP - Three game lead with five to go. Two toughest games (GU and UPJ) are inside the KCAC.
2. Mercyhurst - The Lakers' two toughest games are in the MAC (UPJ and Cal). The finale in Morrow could be a little tricky.
3. UPJ - I see them losing at both Mercyhurst and IUP -- and finishing with an identical division record as California. UPJ swept the Vulcans and gets the tie-breaker.
4. California - The Vulcans have three straight easy ones prior to a trip to Mercyhurst. Gannon visits in the finale. I see Cal finishing out 4-1 (and beating GU in the finale in Angelo).
5. Gannon - Tough last four games. Trips to IUP and California in addition to possibly difficult games with a pesky Clarion and Slippery Rock.
6. Slippery Rock - Should end the season by beating Seton Hill and Edinboro. But also has the two Erie schools.

Round 1:

SRU at UPJ - Season split and SRU should have won both. Rock is a bad match-up for UPJ.
Gannon at Cal - Exactly 48 hours after they play the season finale inside the Angelo Dome.

It's a bad loss -- especially from the eye test angle. SRU had been pummeled in 3 of its past 4 games entering last night. But, SRU was a fluke play in Johnstown away from winning that one, too. UPJ is just 4-3 in its past 7 games, and has struggled all year against physical teams.

Regardless, Joe has to thank the Rock this morning. That gave him a comfy 3-game lead in the West -- and three of his remaining five games are against Edinboro, Clarion and Seton Hill.
