UMKC isn't "from the area," they're the local school. I don't think UCM or any of the other MIAA schools would generate that kind of interest for KC media, unless they had a great deal of success.

My point was that the MIAA gets more football exposure because there are no area schools playing FCS football. I believe most KC media outlets would rather report on D1 than D2. Before UMKC went D1, Rockhurst got as much (or more) media coverage.

MO State isn't in the area and they have a local radio affiliate for both football and basketball.

Better start buying my Summit League Tournament tickets! :)

At least the Vikes moving up would take away NSIC fans' abilities to complain about the NSIC Tournament being in Sioux Falls to favor Augie. That would be nice for everyone involved.

It was the evening guy, whom I don't care for much but basically it was this.

He mentioned it, then spent 10 minutes hyping Fargo and the pride they should all feel there and then following it up with "but you have to realize, the majority of the country doesn't see this area as a destination. They enjoy it and the people when they do come here, but it's not a destination.

He was basically saying, be happy if we can form a long standing conference and build on strength they have already. The problem is, the big money supporters want big names, not small gains.

But, it's what I have always said, could the Bison compete with Big Ten schools, of course they could in some sports, but does the Big Ten have interest in the less than 2 million people in the Dakota's and playing in, at most, a 30,000 person stadium...i highly doubt it.

I think the people of Sioux Falls will rise up to force this to happen. They want to hoard any and all activities and events they can (I don't like it but cannot blame them at all)

I won't be shocked if this happens despite whether or not it is a good move for the school.

                    Re: OT:D1 moves/Summit League

I would think that if there is any school in the region that is in the best shape to make that transition, it would be Augustana. With the marketability of Sioux Falls and the success of the athletic programs outside of football, I think Augie could make that transition and compete in several sports within 3-5 years.

Obviously the question with any sport is, would Augie be willing to sacrifice football to go D1? That's going to be a divided issue, no matter who you talk to.

As for everyone else, I just don't think there are any other schools that would be ready to make that move. I just can't foresee SCSU, UMD, or MSU making that move. Looking at the MIAA, I can't foresee anyone there either except for UCM, and even then I'm skeptical. No one, and I mean absolutely no one from the GAC would even remotely consider that move. Football is just way too big here in Arkansas/Oklahoma for them to willingly sacrifice it to move D1. I know Arkansas Tech has been in some D1 talks in the past with a bunch of smaller Arkansas schools (Central Arkansas, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Arkansas-Little Rock) making the move, but Arkansas Tech seems pretty content with staying at D2 and keeping football. I can honestly say the football culture here at Arkansas Tech seems too ingrained into the culture for the university to sacrifice it.

                      Let's get it started....

The only reason SMSU won the tournament this year is because they were in Sioux Falls, close to home.

Agreed. Sioux Falls has the population base to enhance the chances of it being successful for Augustana.

As to football, I recall one of the proposed options considered by Mn. State about ten years ago when they were considering moving up with UND and USD was dropping football to make this feasible. To me personally, that would have been too great a price to pay.

If MSU drops football, I'm renting out my fan support to some other NSIC team.

I'm sure that someone will offer me at least a chocolate milk for my support. I'll already have a cap to wear. I might need a lapel pin.

I'm surprised it hasn't come up yet, but I guess I'll start it.

What happens to the NSIC if/when Augie goes D1? (As I've stated before, I first laughed at the notion, but I firmly believe it's going to happen based on no inside knowledge, I can explain later if I haven't already.

Regardless, what happens? Do we give some the boot and say good luck? Do we split up? Do we add someone? Morningside interested in moving up? Black Hills would be a nice addition, but I'm guessing the Duluth folk wouldn't be real thrilled of a trip to Spearfish, haha.

So who would be Black Hills' travel partner? From Winona 662 miles; 9.2 hours. A Crazy.
