they also suck on the weekend at 3:30 instead of say 5 & 7 -- but the travel is such that it makes sense from a player standpoint. they get back late enough as it is with 3:30 and 5:30 starts.

but kills attendance as kids stuff going on all day

back in the day when Saturday was 5:30 & 7:30 or 6 & 8 you would get great crowds
I would say this - Thursday against Augie we had a great crowd at 5:30 pm. There weren't any other events in Marshall to compete against and you could tell with the crowd. people found a way to get there

Honestly parents get burned out and the costs are crazy
When my son was playing, it was 10-12 tournaments per season (some of the other metro teams did up to 14). He did it for 3 years. Thankfully there were plenty of teams in the area so it was only one ‘overnight’ tournament each season. One year was at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

I believe I went to one game in those 3 years. But that was alright, my son was only going to be young once. Cue the Rod Stewart music…ha

I was rather impressed with the crowd in that game, as well. Seemed like Augie brought a good-sized crowd too, as usual. Looked like a fun atmosphere.

The biggest thing about the old start times is that it was something you could count on. Up until probably 10 years ago, all doubleheaders were 6 and 8. It was never going to change. It seems like now there are so many different start times that you always have to check what time the game is.

SMSU has Hawaiian Night this week.....I feel like the changing Saturday start times have zapped some of the energy that game used to bring. I don't live in town, but I follow the programs regularly, and yesterday I remember being caught off guard that it is Hawaiian Night week. Some of that is the name change nuking things. Some of it could just be from not being in Marshall, but that was always such a major event on the calendar and it has turned into a footnote.

Woulda thought that consistency would play in the upper Midwest??? 😏

Crazy but I prefer double headers. At $20/seat (reserved plush) don't want to drive downtown 28x when 14 will do.
Besides between games gives you time to BS with the rest of the guys and grab a chick fil-a.
i would like Sat night games rather than 1pm starts.

There was an MIAA proposal a few years ago where both teams would play a double header on Thursday and then just one team (say women) would play the travel partner on Saturday. Then the other team (men) would play said travel partner on Monday night. Got shot down because of class time, weird days off for the Thurs./Mon. team and admin staffing.
