Anyone fighting on the side to end slavery seems ok by me
You obviously don't know your history. MO was a slave state in name more than practice. Many Union states had significantly more slavery than MO. As a matter of fact, the Tigers nickname was given to a group of fighters who defended the anti-slavery government at the capital from small groups of pro-slavery folks. That's where the MU mascot comes from.

The 2016 Augustana University Men's Basketball National Championship team will be honored with the unveiling of its championship banner at the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight on Wednesday, March 22 at the Sanford Pentagon. The ceremony will be held during halftime of the Northwest Missouri State and Saint Thomas Aquinas game which will tip off at 6 p.m.
"Each of the past 58 Division II men's basketball champions will have banners hanging from the rafters at the Sanford Pentagon next week and we are excited to see our banner join them," Augustana director of athletics Slade Larscheid said. "It will be another special moment and we hope that our fans can join us for this exciting event."
"The unveiling of the championship banner for the defending national champion is a first for the Division II era as no other year has the city of the defending national champions hosted the championship the following year," Sioux Falls Sports Authority Executive Director Bryan Miller said. "We look forward to the opportunity to host the halftime presentation and welcome all Sioux Falls residents to be a part of the special occasion.
