    Re: Alderson Broaddus Basketball

There was video for a couple of games last year. It was very good and the AD said more will be coming. I just have a feeling there will be no sound (no play by play)

      Re: Alderson Broaddus Basketball

Big shout to the team for the victory. Glad for Dorrell. I thought he had a chance to rise up as a senior. Coach said he worked hard in the off-season. He hit some clutch shots yesterday when we trailed in both regulation and overtime. Exzavier was big in his first game and played all 45 minutes. Exzavier and Dorrell were 16 of 16 at the free throw line. Sanar went 42 minutes and was productive. 5 assists to 1 turnover; 4 of 4 from the line. We shot 23 of 25 from the free throw line. We have to cut down on turnovers as a team. We started a lot of walk-ons. Mitchell was productive off the bench. Wade can be but had 4 turnovers which is probably why he doesn't start.

I saw Wayne State for awhile. They run some good backside action in their half-court with a 3-man movement on the backside. They do settle for long jumpers...maybe that changes today. This is quite the tough assignment for defense. Hard to extend out because of their penetration ability. I don't want their bigs getting position inside...make the passing lanes harder. But they do have some shooters outside that missed a few yesterday. It will be real tough to win as their guards can probe the defense and dish.

If, and a big IF, we can get Bocook out there in late December, then this team gets another guy capable of double-doubles every night, and a guy who can defend. I have my doubts though that he will be there, but he is a talent like Cooper.

I watched a lot of hoops here and there last night. Our future opponents:

Concord won easily. Aaron Miller is a heck of a player. Very tough home opener. They are talented at every position and can get out and run.

Bowie State beat WV Wesleyan in a slugfest. I thought that was a good call scrimmaging Wesleyan. I always felt Gary Nottingham was the best coach in the WVIAC when I was in school. He can flat coach defense. That gave us a good look at a quality defense. They led Bowie most of the game. Bowie gets Fairmont today who played without Bingaya yesterday and still won by double-digits.

IUP ran away early from Lincoln. They are really solid. Urbana beat UPJ which surprised me.

      St. Augustine's won over Mansfield.

Glenville State had to cancel their tournament and won't be able to play their first two games. Shaw and Livingstone cancelled two weeks ago because of "budgetary concerns". That left Gannon and GSC holding the bag. So Glenville has a key conference game next Saturday on the road with no games under their belt. The CIAA schools are getting a reputation of cancelling games late. We found that out two years ago in hoops and this year in football.

Shepherd got a good win over East Stroudsburg. Shepherd's first six players are very good. Rams always win early and tank late though. Will that happen again?

Wheeling looked like a region contender again. They hammered Slippery Rock in a game that wasn't as close as the score. MEC as a whole was very good against their regional matchups.

That is what I saw here and there that takes us to the new year. I said I would be pretty happy with a split. But a sweep would be a better start than I expected.

          Re: Alderson Broaddus Basketball

I just watched that women's volleyball game. That was the best they have played all year. Great game to watch winning 15-14 in the 5th set over Ursuline.

I was glad for Tyler hitting that game-winning FG today. That was a long one too. Good to see a Philippi guy lead AB to a win. Finishing 9-2 should help recruiting again. Beating two MEC schools will help us a heck of a lot more now in the state. We can point to those to kids.

The hoops team started out down 17-0 and didn't know where to turn. Wayne didn't miss and we couldn't do a lot right. I listened to Wayne's radio of the broadcast. It will be nice to actually see the team on video on Tuesday! These things happen and we can't panic. This happened against Ashland two years ago. Our next three games are incredibly tough. The Wayne St announcer complimented Reggie Robinson for his play against Wayne starters. I believe he will be more of a factor as I thought he would. He had 11 points in 12 minutes. The lineup will fluctuate for several games. Let's see what we look like against a good Concord team....I am going to watch them here in a little. They were impressive last night. They flat can run. As bad as today was, the Tiffin win was good. Tiffin played both games this weekend without their best player. If they get him back soon, they will win some games. I was impressed with him in this event last year. Tiffin had a chance to win against KWC in the final two minutes.

              Re: Alderson Broaddus Basketball

As silly as it sounds, there were some good things. We had the lead at nine with about 13 minutes to play and tried a zone which we needed to give a different look. Unfortunately, the player playing the wing didn't step out on Miller when he didn't have the ball and he drained two 3's. That was the game.

Ja'Darien missed this game and was on crutches. Not an excuse as this was a loss anyways, but we need him to have game experience more than any thing. He at least brings a better athlete out there and a guy who can score. I don't know his status on his injury. I thought Mitchell looked real solid. He needs to play 32 minutes. Chavez did play aggressive. I thought Sanders plays tough on the ball defense. If Sanders can start hitting 3's which is what he is known for, that will help. Cooper and Foster were off last night.

Getting a 5-second call when Concord makes a basket and does not press is completely ridiculous. Who cares who takes the ball out there, just get in. It is basketball not science. Concord is better than us but we had chances before the half and to start the second half to get it to a one or two possession. Zimmerman ran a good play to a senior to start the second half; it was an open look; got to hit the shot....would have cut it down to 5 pts.

The next two opponents are rough. Bowie lost at Fairmont by 3 and hung tough most of the game at IUP. They can't afford to lose at home to us and Coach Brooks will have them ready. He is a good coach who schedules as hard as any coach OOC. Then it is at IUP. I am not discouraged because you could see this coming. The freshmen come in and they are freshmen.

JV plays at Potomac State tonight. If I can get out of work early, I will go to it. Potomac is 4-0 so far.

Got word that Ja'Darien Wade broke his fifth metatarsal down in Kentucky and didn't play against Wayne State. He has surgery this Friday. I hated to hear that. Kid has worked hard and was a team player.

I just saw this and am glad for this Philippi native. He did a good job on the call of the men's game last night. The video kept freezing....someone it a button right before the tip and it kept freezing during spots. Hopefully the SID department can get that fixed. Tyler puts in a lot time broadcasting the men's and women's games for years. Anyways....that was a HUGE kick with the game on the line.

Heading down to Bowie in a bit to see AB play. Students at Bowie are in session until Wednesday which means we get quite the atmosphere today....huge band, cheerleaders, dance squad and a full mix DJ. Both teams need a win. It will be tough to stop Wilson.

Sorry to hear of the passing of one our recent players. I am not getting into details or names and all that. I know some of the current players and coaches were part of teams with him.

                        Re: Alderson Broaddus Basketball

Just a quick follow up: my son and I were at the game yesterday. I thought AB played hard and the score got away at the end. That happens. One stretch in the 2nd-half put it out of reach. Mental notes.....it was a one-possession game with 7 minutes left as we were down 3; Bowie hit a three to put us down six, we turned the ball over, Bowie shot it and a Bowie guy appeared to me to push off (and to Zimmerman). Ref was quick to T Zimmerman....but officiating was real good yesterday to be truthful; Bowie hit both FTs. We turn the ball over and they score. We were down 13 with six to play. That one minute was the ball game. We played better than what I saw against Concord.

Foster and Sanar did some good things but they turned the ball over WAY too much. Dorrell hit some clutch shots, but he constantly turned the ball over. Sanar was pressed hard the whole game. Our two-guards have to start hitting the open shots....way too many misses yesterday (1 of 11 ain't cutting it and a lot of those were open looks). Cooper was in foul trouble the whole game. We have to go meet the pass rather than wait for the pass. We were out-hustled in that department which led to costly turnovers. We also had trouble with their big man posting up. He is tall and transferred in from Navy.

Positives I got: (1) we performed fairly well other than the turnovers against a very athletic team; Wilson is the real deal and hit some clutch shots with the shot clock winding down; (2) I got word Wade will be back in six weeks; we could have used his athleticism yesterday; (3) Chavez seems to be more consistent and more aggressive; (4) Butler looked good I thought....his name on the box is messed up (Grant); he seemed to play more than five minutes and handled the ball well against tough pressure. He doesn't get rattled with some tough D-I transfer guards pressing him and a student body literally on the floor hounding the team. (4) Sanders does some nice things and his stroke is good, just has to hit shots; good defender and good ball handler at the two.

IUP is another brutal one Friday, but if they continue to get better like they did this week, then I think the schedule has some possibilities coming up. Big IF, and I really hate to even mention this, but if you get Wade and Bocook out there late Dec, then we have a nice squad by late January as Malik is our best talent. UPJ and St Aug could be wins if we played like we did during most of the game yesterday. Coach Brooks does a good job at Bowie; they had that urgent feeling to get a win yesterday.

Unless I'm missing something, KWC plays everyone twice except Lake Erie and Trevecca. Lake Erie is fine...but why would they keep us and TNU from playing each other twice since we're close together (and really the only close school either of us has in the whole conference)? That doesn't make any sense to me. If we're considered travel partners I don't see why we wouldn't be always guaranteed a home/home against each other.

Yep, agree. That doesn't make much sense. I'm guessing they did some kind of rotation, to figure out which schools that would only play once, and that's how it worked out for 2017 season. It will probably rotate to a different two schools next year. My question is why even do that? Why not just play everyone twice and call it done?

As a side note, couldn't TNU and KWC just schedule a second "non-conference" game?
