Re: Your Favorite D2 Players
Not current players?
Then I'll circle back to the mid-90's and throw the name of Chris Hatcher on the table.
Hatcher won the 1994 Harlon Hill running the new fangled Air Raid offense of HC Hal Mumme, OC Mike Leach and played under QB coach Dana Halgorson. This under sized QB had a career 68.5 completion percentage and threw for 11,363 yards and threw for 121 TD's. He set 29 VSU records while he played here. Valdosta State went from an also ran to a contender during the early 90's with Hatcher behind center..
Move down the calendar to 2000 and for the next 7 seasons he took our 18 year old program to a whole new level. In his first year, at the age of 27, he took us to a 10-2 record (we'd been 4-7 the year prior ('99), which was our last losing season). From 2000-2006 he lead the Blazers to a 76-12 record (86.4% winning percentage). He took us to the playoffs 6 out of his 7 years and won 4 GSC championships. He also took us to the 2002 national championship game (our first - we lost to Grand Valley) and then in 2004 we pulled lightning out of a bottle and beat an amazing Pitt State team to win our first of 4 national championships. The path was laid.
His OC during his time here was a guy named David Dean. Dean became the HC when Hatcher left and won another 2 championships.
Chris Hatcher has done a whole lot for Blazer Nation and would have to be on the top of my list for favorites.Last edited by Fan_the_Flame; 08-18-2019, 06:25 PM.
