Wow! Terrible news for all involved. Unfortunately, probably be seeing this happen to more schools as this thing drags on...

Wow indeed. That's unfortunate. Going to be a survival of the fittest it looks like, although long term some schools probably do need to close.

The MEC had to know this was coming, even before the shutdown, I was surprised that Urbana was still a college.

Now does MEC reach out to AB? Or not since if they do, NDC might go to the GMAC, but again, NDC might just take the first step and go to the GMAC now that the other Ohio school is no more?

This is not a surprise, and they wont be the last. Just wait when college's don't go back to school in August and watch schools drop like flies. Most of these schools are already hurting, this will be the knock out blow.

Does this affect the possibility of UNC-PEMBROKE considering other options ? As a football only member of the MEC, there wouldn't seem to be a strong attachment.
Any guesses on which other conference schools could be in the same position ?

I think Wheeling just might be next to shut their doors.

I wouldn't expect UNCP to stick around the MEC long. They just joined the Conference Carolinas and it seems like it will only be a matter of time before that conference has enough members to sponsor football.

Short term check the school's endowment. Depending on outstanding debt a large enough endowment will probably get a line of credit.

                      Recent estimates--- CONCRD--$25M, CHAS--$28M, WVSU--$10M, GSU--$15M, WVWU--$42M, FAIR--$20M, FRST--$22M, WHEEL--$16M, WLU--$13M, NDC--NA, UNCP--$1M

Good. They suck, bring nothing to the table, and are on a geographic island with crappy facilities.

Hopefully Wheeling shuts down soon as well. Still not sure why West Liberty pushed for them to be included in the MEC.

UNCP really has only a $1 million endowment? how are they still accredited?

Topper912...That team that brought nothing to the table...In 2018 forced 3 turnovers and stoned your beloved Hilltoppers Offense on 4th down at the Goalline to win the game...In 2019 forced 3 more turnovers, and ran the ball down your throat to deliver a beat down in you own stadium.

A lot of great kids and dedicated/invested coaches took that program from 1-10 to 7-4 in 5 seasons despite the facilities and location...while your beloved Hilltoppers have spiraled into mediocrity.

Sorry, that was bad info which I unfortunately passed on. Actual number is more like $24M very much like the others in the league.
