The Italian basketball league didn't want Penn State ... they just wanted a premier basketball league that happened to have football.

You could say it was a bad decision (of Biblical proportions).

Almighty Joebots bailed on their team. Then within days anointed James the new King. Amazing what one blocked field goal did for his career.

They rejected Penn State but took in Pitt.

Villanova voted against them and now they will take Penn States money next decade to be their cupcake for a few foosball games.

No doubt. The thought at the time was the Big East only wanted major markets. Obviously, Creepy Valley didn't fit that mold.

Like everything, the money gets followed. At that time the Big East schools saw basketball as the meal ticket as in that era they were the first to be headlining in major arena's and they moved the game off campus in to the big cities. Big East basketball in the 1980s was The Show. It was incredible. Big stars. Big cities. Hated rivalries. Celebrity coaches.

Looking back in time recall college football wasn't what it is now back in the 1980s and certainly not the 70s. Crystal ball, sure, they take the Joebots in a second. At the time, well, it was a different era. Football exploded. College basketball got ruined. The rest is history.

Man, the Big East Game of the Week was must-see TV.

Probably worth noting that game was played in late November--- As well as being played in 1981 as aforementioned.

                Talk about a night ...

The Clarks closed down Philadelphia Street tonight. Literally.

                Obviously an IUP band.

For you out of towners, Philly Street was closed from about 4th Street to 10th Street.

I know The Clarks play some big crowds. Not many could have been larger than tonight.

The game is going to be played on a soaked, grass field.

I can't help but think that is an advantage to Pitt -- with good RBs, a solid OL and a running QB.

If PSU can't throw that is a major setback to its offense.

And, they both think they are Harvard compared to any of our schools.
