Why is Philly a better fit than DC?

Had that 2010 Cup run but it fell apart after that and they’ve been in the wilderness for 10 years. Briere and Jones might get it back on track after years of bad front office management. Comcast isn’t the best owner either.
But now we are going to get a brand new billion dollar arena now that the Sixers about faced on a Crnter City arena for themselves and teamed back up with Comcast who also owns the Well Fargo Center..which just completed a 450 million dollar renovation. The team everyone here is mad at is the Sixers. They are a mess this year. From Embiid being a putz..to the arena drama..and NOBODY wanted a new arena in Center City.
Jeffrey Milquetoast will most likely chime in soon he wants a new stadium with a retractable roof so he can cash in with Super Bowls and Final Fours in Philly. The Northeast Corridor needs one venue to do that…and DC might try for it but Philly is a better fit.

Oddly the Pirates aren't really picked on in Pittsburgh. It's almost like the 'loveable loser' approach from the fans.
Ownership is hammered 365 days a year, but the team stays fairly popular.
The fan base largely has zero expectations. Pirates games are seen as a 'night out' and the result is pretty much irrelevant. The team is set up to fail. They'll have some decent years here and there. They do now have two phenom arms in Paul Skenes and Jared Jones. Their bats still suck, however.
They are run like a AAA team so it is what it is. Locals still dream about Mark Cuban coming home and buying the team, but, while forever rumored, there's never been any indication he's actually interested. The city went nuts during that brief stretch 10 years ago when they made the playoffs a couple times. Then, of course, it all got blown up. A couple of their "can't miss" guys naturally missed (Gregory Polanco, etc.).
As for the hockey team here ... too rich for my blood. I have a lot better ways to drop a grand than taking the family to a Pens game. That said, I loosely follow them mainly because the radio here talks about them. They are obviously nearing the end of the Big 3. It seems the issue is they have so much coin tied up in those three aging players that the supporting cast is pretty bad. During their last Cup runs the then-GM was a notorious deadline dealer -- great at the time but the ensuing drafts were bad for years. The cupboard got pretty bare.

Its not that Philly is a title town now, Philly has consistent been the runner up or the team you beat on the way to winning it all. Hell I don't know another city that lost two finals on the same day like the Phillies and Union did a few years back. The Flyers have been to the finals 6 times and come up short. Phillies seemed to have peaked in 2022 and now are on the downturn, Sixers can't get past the 2nd round of the playoffs and its that time of the year when the Eagles break our hearts again. Philly fans have seen enough almosts in there time, until the confetti falls philly was will continue to expect those teams to break hearts.

However they are heading in the right direction albeit slowly. It’s not like they are the Potbellied Snow Chickens having horrific seasons in the early 80’s and early 2000’s and having multiple generational talents dropped in their laps. Yinzers got lucky twice having that happen.

Reid went 130-93 in Philly with 4 NFC champ game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance. It's hard to win a super bowl, and you rarely win one without a great QB. Reid is a top 10 coach of all time almost by any metric.

I know they’ll have to win at Buffalo and KC to do it, but Baltimore really has no excuse to not, at the least, win the AFC, especially if Zay Flowers gets healthy.

I’ve defended Tomlin for a long time when people bring the subject up but I’m out of excuses for the guy. Sometimes a mutual parting of the ways could be good for both parties. I don’t think Tomlin is a bad dude and it seems clear that the players like him, but that doesn’t work for everyone. Andy Reid seems to be a players coach that is also very successful, but he also has Patrick Mahomes. Otherwise I kind of like a head coach that isn’t so chummy with the players.
