I don't think Shepherd deserved 7 on first Team. With how the OL looked from Slippery Rock on, I don't know how any of them deserve conference recognition at all, let alone 1st team. RB fumbled in just about every big game Shepherd played in, and I don't understand why you need 3 first team RB's.

ESU in a 10-1 season, only got 5 on the first team. I think Judd Novak on 2nd team QB over Sean McTaggart of ESU is a miss as well. McTaggart had more yards, more touchdowns but lost the head to head I guess as the tie breaker?

I almost would have been OK with Kutztown having all 11 spots on Defense. They were outstanding this year and every starter hopefully was recognized.

Shepherd just lost their best receiver to the portal a couple days ago according to a posting on X. (Dorner)

Big loss there. He's probably the most talented WR they've had there since Billy Brown.

One thing I see in this list is that it’s generally tilted towards age/experience. If my quick count is right slightly more than half of the honorees are seniors, RS seniors, or grad students. Another six guys are RS juniors who could potentially be 5 years removed from HS instead of the normal 4 due to COVID.

Without question 'lifetime achievement award' plays in to the voting.

I'll be honest ... this is the most BY FAR this board has ever discussed these all-conference teams.

I wasn’t suggesting the picks were lifetime achievement awards. More noting that a lot of these guys are presumably going to be gone next year and the number of truly young players on the list is pretty low. At a level where most programs rebuild instead of reload you wonder what that might mean for the quality of next year’s teams.

It seems to me in the 30+ years I've been covering the Warriors, that many times All-Conference First teamers are mostly Seniors. In this year, when some are playing in their 6th season of College Football, it can seem like a lifetime acheivement award...I thought McTaggart deserved better. Throwing TDs to 10 different guys in a season is pretty special!

Now that you mention it Guy Gilyard was the most dominant offensive lineman I have seen in PSAC from ESU and he was only on second team. I also agree that Mctaggart definitely was deserving

Other coaches told me all year how good Gilyard was, so I have no idea what happened when voting time came around...McTaggart just set the new ESU record for completion percentage in a season (65.4%). He bested Jimmy Terwilliger's 2006 record of 64.2%. His 26 TD passes was 2nd best in the PSAC. Sean's completion percentage was 2nd best to Shepherd's Lek Powell, who's average completion was less than 10 yards. McTaggart's average was 13.7 yards per completion. I'm not complaining by any stretch. There's always athletes who will get overlooked every year.

These selections become very political. Its not always the most deserving that gets the recognition. Its nice for the players, but in most cases, the kids do nit care that much. They are focused on competing and winning. Would they like to be recognized...sure, but its not the WHY for their playing.

That's coach speak, the players care if they make all conference or not. Fun to say in an interview or to the public, but in reality hell yes they care if they made all conference or not.

Agreed. When you consider how many players in D2 want to get the freak out of D2 ... having those accolades look good for the portal resume.
