Answer: Now I see where it says postseason = zero years. I guess it just means they will have to do extra paperwork?
We got the "Don't do that again" probation. It probably helps that the person responsible is no longer there. Even if you want to argue that the AD should have known, that AD has also moved on. Any real punishment at this point would just hurt people who did nothing wrong.

Embarrassing to say the least. In NCAA terminology...a "Lack of Institutional Control."

Eh ... And those people are gone. It's no big deal.

Yes, the people are gone...but it's never about individuals in the big picture. It IS about the program.
It's a stain on the program.

Already washed out with Tide, moving along.

That's how it works. Nobody cares about the individual. They become nameless and faceless (and forgotten). Somebody has to pay.

Luckily for Shepherd this seems like a big to-do about very little.

If I were a Shepherd person, here are my concerns:

                1) The original hire was previously a soccer coach and no direct experience with athletic compliance

                2) The replacement hire was just a grad student who didn't seem to directly do compliance work

Yep, you have obviously never sat across the table from a set of parents and their son whom you are recruiting. It matters sir.

I have actually, what response do you want? They had an incompetent person in a position that affected quite a few players. The program suffered at the time and now and that person was removed. End of story sir.

I would certainly not want the response given in a previous post. It was the "oh well...the perpetrators are gone...so it's over
" response. As I stated in my prior response, its an embarrasment for the program. Time to move on? Yes...as long as the lesson is learned. But this situation is certainly not to be taken lightly sir.

I do think Shepherd got off pretty lightly here given that the inadmissible aid and ineligible transfers were spread across multiple sports over two years rather than being a one or two time failure concentrated in a single sport. It seems to me that Shepherd put all the blame on one person, the former compliance officer, and the NCAA was willing to accept this rather than ask hard questions about why the AD didn’t notice what one of his subordinate administrators was doing and why no one else in the department raised their voice about it. That certainly strikes me as a lack of institutional control more than inadequate monitoring. This wasn’t some assistant coach passing out cash but an entire athletic department failing in one of its core job duties.

Yeah, I think you are on to something there.

He’s bitter because his son had to transfer or compete for the starting job. He’s an undercover Shepherd hater…

And you may want to read some of the other posts above. They too must be Shepherd haters. I love Shepherd football and support Ernie McCook to the end. But that has nothing to do with REALITY. Your supposed support of the program has trumped what common sense you may have. You were probably the little league dad who always told your son it was the umpires fault when he struck out every at bat. That reasoning gets you know where sir.
