  • I have always wondered how good the replay is at the D2 level. It is not like these games are on ESPN, where there are 18 different camera angles for the officials to use.

Also, why has IUP struggled in the running game this year? We have a great passing attack, but it would be nice to run the ball more.

I thought our defense was better than how we played against Clarion yesterday. I think the mobile quarterback really hurt us.

We'd also be naive to think missing Logan Goodwin yesterday wasn't a major blow early in the game.

He's probably going to win West Defensive POY. IUP isn't just plug and playing a replacement for him.

It certainly took them awhile to adjust to him not being there.

The last TD was on the kickoff team. I can't pin that one on the Defense.

They have been good in stretches but good teams have certainly scored on them. Luckily they have an explosive offense this year.

Well, elite mobile QBs light up most teams - in stretches.

You best not miss when you have a shot (as we saw yesterday when that play broke down and then Guerrcio took it 70 yards).

The issue for them, however, is they take a lot of hits. They almost never play a full season.

Regardless, it won't be a pleasant film review session. Tort is going to hammer them about that first half.

        • Nobody had this on their bingo cards..

          IUP 5-1
          Edinboro 5-1
          Mon Valley U 3-3
          Slimey Pebble 3-3
          Clarion 2-4
          Seton Hill 2-4
          LIT AF 1-5

5 of 7 teams will end the season with a winning record.

It won’t get much use to start next season..4 of the first 5 are on the road…and they still did us ugly with the Slimey/Mon Valley b2b

They updated it to slot The Haven back to the West and Scranton U in the East.

It figures we play at West Chester on 9/12 because I already know I’m invited to a family wedding that day at White Manor Country Club..hoping it’s at night and I can sneak to the game for at least a half…

That's a tough one. Those walk-ons always seem to be at their best early.

              • Is the fan bus booked yet for Saturday?

Surely IUP could fill up two of them.

I had no intention of making the trip but now it turns out I may be returning from Delaware on Saturday if a few things fall the right way. If the timing works out, I think I’ll go.

By Saturday night Joe's game could be moved to Zink.

                            It's 'feasible' but complicated.

Joe plays the second game of a doubleheader (and the second game never starts on time at the scheduled 7:30 p.m. time).

If you left the Kutztown parking lot by 3:15 p.m. you'd have a shot to make the opening tip. But, the football game would have to be 3 hours or less.

This game accomplishes giving one team the Dollar Store Trophy the Home Office in Lock Haven hands out, the winner collects 18 points for the Bogus Dixon Trophy and it decides the seeding for each team in the playoffs.

Kutztown is getting home games in the playoffs win or lose..IUP could jump and get a home game if they upset The Fighting Amish.
for once, i'd have to say i agree with you. IUP's biggest advantage going into this game is being battle tested. With Ashland as their OOO game and a meatgrinder of a west schedule that certainly has to benefit IUP. They've lost a couple tight games and they've won a few. Those experiences certainly can be a huge benefit for a team in a game like this. But for them to have a chance in this one, they are going to have to play a little better than they have the last few weeks. Need to be able to cause some chaos with the D line and QB1 cannot turn the ball over. Also, with the weather turning they have to come up with something that resembles a running game. Either way, IUP will be the best team that Kutz has seen this year. Who knows how they respond that.

The timing of the Clarion game was also important. That was really the first 'dual threat QB' IUP had faced all year.

The Cal and SRU QBs can run a bit but they'd slide quickly or run out of bounds. Guercio was running for house calls. Big difference. The Kutztown QB is very similar.

I re-watched the IUP/Clarion game. I was expecting them to be out of sorts early without Goodwin, but that got crazy bad in the first quarter. I don't know X's and O's well enough but they were having mass breakdowns, missed tackles, etc. That quarter was very uncharacteristic of what we've seen all year. And, I think Clarion was obviously much better than they were expecting. Larry Wilson knowing every facet of the defense didn't help, either.

That said, I think the IUP offense left 14-21 points on the field in the first half. Whatever they adjusted defensively after that barrage seemed to work pretty well.

Getting Goodwin back this week will be a huge boost. Sure, it can be said he's only one guy but he's a likely finalist for D-POY, so that's a huge loss when he's out.

One thing I've learned is Tort's teams play at their best when they feel disrespected or when they are the perceived underdog. He can really get the fire lit.
