  • 2025 West Florida

I attended the spring game this morning in 75 degree, overcast and windy conditions with a good crowd of about 500.

As has been the case for the last 3 years, the defense controlled all the offenses no matter the QB. Stokes and Bartelo led each side with a couple of freshmen also taking snaps. The defenses stuffed the run, sacked the QBs and knocked down and picked off passes. None of the receivers looked in sync with any of the QBs and there were very few productive plays or first downs.

One LB had a pick 6, a couple of receivers made big gains when they broke tackles after a short pass and there were a few runs outside for 10 yards. I only saw the last 45 minutes, but it was mainly 3 and punt with exception of pick 6. One receiver dropped a wide open pass in the end zone and there were more incompletions than catches.

They were playing touch the QB and he’s down so that played a big part in the bad passing game. I sure hope they can improve the offense by the opening game with L-R or it’s going to be a sad opener for the home crowd.

Argos men’s golf won 2025 D2 championship in extra holes yesterday for their third title in program history. That makes 11 total national titles for West Florida. Go Arrrgggooosss!!!

Not soon enough. No offense to UWF, but I think they are ready.

                Well, get the popcorn ready.
UWF fans are probably the least "losing tolerant" of most fan bases. When they sink to the "initial losing streak of move up programs" they can still use the UNA mantra of:
" it ain't so bad, misery loves company, and our basketball program has won some games "

I think they could compete in the ASUN, I don't think that's going out on a limb too far

Some games? Lol. Bless your heart. UNA was ASUN regular season Co-Champs, played in conference tournament title game for a chance to play in March Madness, and played in the NIT. Much more visibility for the school than D2 or FCS football playoffs.

Also, North Alabama just won the men’s All-Sports trophy in the ASUN.

Overheard in UNA Athletic Offices recently: “UWF would already be in the ASUN if their leadership had it together.”

My fan guesstimate of move up is after new football stadium is finished, so 5 years?

                          LOL
Thank you for your blessings on me!

As a FOOTBALL MESSAGE BOARD, I was ah, ah, talking about FOOTBALL(imagine that!)Being the positive person I am, I wanted to acknowledge UNA's success in other
                          sports. BUT back to FOOTBALL

UNA FOOTBALL(this is STILL a FOOTBALL BOARD, I believe) from 2020 thru 2024 is 10-39 in FOOTBALL.

I am happy for their break thru in other venues, but when the talk about UNA moving up all started(much of it by you) is was about 90% football related.

Much of it by me? Lol. I’m an alumnus of the school and was the GSC Blogger those years. Of course I was talking about it and mainly discussing football. You’ll also recall I wasn’t a fan of reclassifying but had no say in the matter.

Now, the college landscape has changed drastically and, honestly, losing some competitive games against quality talent in FCS and FBS opponents while other sports are doing well in D1 is better (for UNA) than winning D2 football games. No judgement on other schools but I’m glad UNA is in D1 now.

I notice you started with 2020 (even though they have been in FCS since 2018) but UNA played 3 FBS teams and Jax State that COVID season while most of D2 cancelled their season. The Lions also played 6 FCS playoff teams and FBS Memphis last season. Being in the UAC and playing a tough non-conference schedule can be brutal. That’s for sure!

Not only has the landscape change. looks like history has as well. Firstly, I don't begrudge UNA, in fact I attended FSC(Florence State) games (in Florence) probably before you were born.
I didn't travel all the way over there to cheer against them.

While as you say(maybe) you were against UNA moving up, you have been a big voice in encouraging other D2's to move up.

Sorry I left the 2018&2019 seasons off my total. Adding 2019, the total goes to 14-46. When you add 2018, it improves to 21-49, but 2018(7-3) isn't exactly a slate loaded with FCS opponents.

I wish UNA all the success possible. My only point in all of this, The grass maybe greener on the other side, but sometimes it takes a long time to climb over the fence.Quite a few schools wish they had stayed in their patch.
