I attended the spring game this morning in 75 degree, overcast and windy conditions with a good crowd of about 500.
As has been the case for the last 3 years, the defense controlled all the offenses no matter the QB. Stokes and Bartelo led each side with a couple of freshmen also taking snaps. The defenses stuffed the run, sacked the QBs and knocked down and picked off passes. None of the receivers looked in sync with any of the QBs and there were very few productive plays or first downs.
One LB had a pick 6, a couple of receivers made big gains when they broke tackles after a short pass and there were a few runs outside for 10 yards. I only saw the last 45 minutes, but it was mainly 3 and punt with exception of pick 6. One receiver dropped a wide open pass in the end zone and there were more incompletions than catches.
They were playing touch the QB and he’s down so that played a big part in the bad passing game. I sure hope they can improve the offense by the opening game with L-R or it’s going to be a sad opener for the home crowd.
