  • NCAA Rankings - GAC Seeding

NCAA D2 rankings released today have OBU at # 5 and Harding at # 6. Just about what I thought. I’m surprised Pitt State didn’t drop lower to an unseeded position but knowing the Committee’s criteria it makes sense. Lots of key games coming up. I don’t think the Bisons should book hotel rooms in Pittsburg, KS just yet. Nor should the Tigers look for lodging in Edmond, OK. A lot to be determined with UCO vs ESU and the BOTR coming up.

At least if UIndy gets in with Earned Access, they'll probably play GVSU instead of Pitt or UCO.

I'd also keep an eye on Saginaw Valley vs. Ferris game. The GLIAC is due for some craziness after the past few weeks in the GAC and MIAA.

If Ferris were to lose (which I don’t see happening, but who knows) I imagine that hurts Pitt State since Ferris is their big win.

My prediction…hold on tight. Lots can and will change.

I don’t understand the criteria that drove the Pitt State seed?

Yeah, I don’t either. Inkblot has them below Ouachita and Harding with regard to in- region record, SOS and wins against quality teams (teams over .500). I guess that early season win over # 1 Ferris State carries a lot more weight than the recent humbling loss to UCM.

Based the predicted rankings covered in last night’s D2.com show if the top 7 teams in SR3 win out it looks like Ouachita will be seeded 5 and play UCO in Edmund, OK and Harding will be seeded 6th and play Pitt St. in the Jungle. We’ll see what the NCAA Comm. releases this afternoon. Still some big games to play.

IF that’s a big IF, but I do wonder if Ouachita beats Henderson that counts as another quality win and moves Ouachita/Harding above Pitt.

I don’t think so. The Comm. appears to be paying more attention to SOS, KPI and H2H this year. Due to our silo scheduling our SOS will stay around .500. If Pitt St and UCO win out, their SOS and H2Hs plus PSU’s H2H over FSU are going to keep them above us. The only thing that could shuffle the deck would be a UCO loss to ESU.

Pitt vs NW is also one to pay attention to for if NW & Emporia both win, that leaves a cluster of MIAA schools at 8 - 3: ESU, Pitt, UCM & Hays vying for 1 spot. Will it go to Pitt based on their victory over Ferris but with loses to both ESU, UCM and NW? UCM has a bad loss against Mo West but beat Emporia and Pitt on the road. Hays beat UCM & ESU but lost to Pitt, UCO and NW. Emporia beats Pitt but loses to UCM, Hays and NW. What a cluster!

In other words…there are no bigger fans of Pitt than the committee this week! They don’t want to mess with that!

Do you really think NW has a shot at beating Pitt State? I know the game is in Maryville. I just don’t see the Bearcat offense being able to move ball against the Gorilla defense.

Ok I just took a look at the current MIAA stats. I take back I said, Statistically Pitt State and NWMS are more evenly matched than I thought. Should be a defensive battle.

If the regional rankings work out this way next week this looks great travel wise first round as these matchups wouldnt require plane rides. Second round looks more difficult to accomplish this.

Its an outside shot but if Minnesota State loses a game and Ft. Hays gets in the top 7, that would make sense to swap those teams out to prevent plane rides on both sides.

They beat UCO head to head so they are #3 and UCO is #4 for now.
