Looks like both QB/RB Christian Johnson and WR Jaylen Johnson have entered the portal. Jaylen kind of surprises me. He's exactly what GV has been missing, which is a big bodied WR to win those 50/50 balls.

Christian Johnson looked pretty good at QB during last year’s spring game. Guess he couldn’t move up the depth chart, though. Bummer about Jaylen Johnson. I agree a big bodied receiver has been a gap since Jahdae Walker left (who signed with the Bears yesterday).

Yea I thought Christian actually looked good in last year's spring game as well, but then come the fall, he was listed as a running back. So I'm wondering if maybe GV didn't see him as a QB, and he wants to go elsewhere to try and keep playing QB?

Jaylin Caldwell had offers from North Texas, Southern Miss and Arkansas State. I understand he then hired an agent. Now he has offers from Kentucky and Missouri in the last 24 hours. College football has forever changed.

Jeff Burton, who had been committed to Kent State for spring ball, went back in the portal and has now committed to Georgia State.

I guess he figured Kent State football was a step down from Grand Valley (which it is). Awful program that couldn't beat Saint Francis PA last year. And Saint Francis PA went from D1 to D3.

The entire Kent State coaching staff was fired after Spring ball, so there were major changes with the program. The coaches who recruited him were then gone.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this means GV is going to be replacing about 4.5 starters on the OL now, when it was originally going to be a strength. There's Josh Sander, Josh Martin, Brett Weaver, and Cannon Mackey who are hopefully returning, although I have no idea if any of them might have also transferred. They all started a few games. Gonna be tough to be replacing essentially the entire OL with a new QB as well.

Correct. But that doesn't mean the program will get any better :). As a MAC school they are the best example of why the whole football part of the conference needs to drop to FCS. And even then Kent State wouldn't be competitive. I guess that MAC after dark on ESPN is just too much to give up. LOL

Agree…..the entire MAC should drop to FCS. Call me selfish but then GV and Ferris could move up and actually have someone to play within driving distance. But, that makes to much sense.

The last two years Weaver has started every game he has been healthy, and Martin the majority of the games he has been healthy.

Ferris and GV would have beat Kent State regardless the last couple years. Now, they wouldn't beat a number of the MAC schools, but if the SEC moves to 9 conference games and then they build in cross-over games with the other major conferences, there is going to be less opportunity for these MAC schools to get a big payday when they go get pounded by a top 25 team. And once they lose that money, it is only going to get worse for their athletic programs.
