The second one was definitely a fumble.

Is that the crew that blew the hays game a few years ago?

Did Sinclair bet UCO to cover? Jeez.

I'm still unsure, too. Uco Oline looked small and weak. Qbs did ok when they weren't running for their lives, but that wasn't often.

I feel the same way in the other direction, too. Not sure how much of Pitts bad o was a result of the UCO front 7 and how much was being too cute and how much was just bad performance by Pitt.

I do know that Pitt has snap issues to adress as well as route communication issues.
                  Random thoughts:
Putting the rs frosh qb in only on series that start in his own end zone may not be the best way to break him in.

10 jet sweeps will just get us laughed at against hays or nw.

Gonna take a lot of wins to get the css magic and crowd size back.

Hardin is so smooth. He's probably not jb fast, but he has that effortless speed thing.

The 1 blown coverage accounted for about 30% of uco yardage and blew the shutout. There was one other blown coverage, but the skinny safety from Wichita bailed the corner out.

The horse collar kept 7 points off the board and everyone knows the real score of this game was 28 to 7.

Enough with the 2 punter thing. Now it just looks like Pitt is doing it as some kind of goofy hipster irony thing.

Oline run blocked pretty well against what I think was a pretty good front 7.

Horack made some cut blocks that make me think of Joe Taylor.

Mixed bag, but a win is a win.

Hornback. That's the skinny safety. Love the way he plays. 170 pounds and plays like he's 220

It looked as if the corner lost the ball. Or thought he saw it. Otherwise, he was covering it perfectly until that. Would have been at least a broken pass if not a pick would he not thought he saw the ball...

Re: Gorillas vs. 'Chos Game Day Thread

Put me in the camp of "I don't know if the defense is that good or if UCO offense is just that bad".

Pitt dominated the defensive line. The Jeffcoat coming off the corner is just nasty. The RT had no chance most of the time, beat like a drum. Thomas is a stud at DT. Pass coverage was pretty good except for 2 plays and on 1 the DB tripped and fell. All this chatter from UCO fans about their RBs was hype. The QB was beat down by the end of the game. Chos need to improve the OLine play or their RBs don't stand a chance. Then again, just maybe the Pitt defense was just that good tonight?

Gorillas have some work to do on offense. Need to be more consistent, but the UCO defense is a stout group. Still, Pitt needs to be more consistent on that side of the ball.

If the defense continues to improve the offense will have time to get their feet under them. Playmakers are there, just need to put it all together.

                        Pleasantly surprised.

Week 1. Need to build on it and see what happens.

I was worried about jeffcoat's size, but as a specialist, he will be very useful.

                            Random thoughts and grades
Dreiling A+ That was the best Pitt D I've seen in many years. I don't think UCO is good on offense but on the exception of 2 plays it was impressive. A fast RB could cause them troubles
Weimers C maybe an Incomplete would be a better grade. Unimaginative play calling, too many rotations at skill positions and it felt we forced it into West's hands way too often on Jet sweeps which as someone else said will get nothing vs Hays, NW and heck maybe even Central
Hardin A- Good athlete and a weapon all over the field on either side of the ball. The minus is only because he needs to learn to fair catch and field punts even if he can't make a play. We probably lost 50 yards because he didn't do that.
Jrod B - looked shaky on some rollouts, forced the ball to West and never looked anyone off the ball. A couple of his completions to Clemmons could have gone for more YAC with better ball placement
Pitt State Running Backs B I think I'm the only person who didn't run the ball for Pitt last night. I think we used too many rb's and some never got in a rhythm. Would like to go with 3 and bring Brown in on short yardage
Thomas - A what a freaking beast. Looks faster than in past years, he most be on this board and read the thread about best DL and been pissed he wasn't mentioned
Jeffcoat A- That what speed do. i bet the UCO qb's will be looking over their shoulder on campus today looking for him. The minus is because that is all he has is an outside speed rush. A draw or planned qb draw up the hole he just vacated would put an end to that.
Pitt Secondary A- 2 bad plays and one was a slip but other than that, wow. coverage was good and the run support and hitting were tremendous
Taylor - speaking of hitting, man that guy plays mean. I worry about him drawing a PF flag at some point with a less tolerant ref crew but I'll take the attitude
Refs - B I know it was Neibling but I thought they did pretty good. They missed a hold well two holds by UCO on West when he went deep and the horse collar call. Compared to a couple of the other games i was watching last night this crew did pretty well.

Knowing it was Neibling's crew, I was more surprised that they called a hold than anything.
