And I hope the trend continues. FHSU vs SouthMo was a complete waste of time. There is no honor on beating down a weakened opponent. You learn nothing from it. And the SouthMo kids are just getting bashed around for no good reason.

I would love to be in a conference where any team can beat any other on their day.

That trend is only fun if it still means that the top two or so are national championship contenders. It's not much fun to have parity in a conference but either no teams make the playoffs or are eliminated early.

There is parity right now because nobody has leapt up yet. It's a race to see who can put a complete game together. Then another and another, and so on.

They are, but Fort Hays and NW still control their own destiny.

While Lindenwood isn't FULLY in control of their destiny, it's very close. They are the only 2 loss team to not have played Pitt, FHSU or NW Mo at this point. If they beat Pitt this weekend, Lindenwood would then be in the catbird seat over FHSU and NW Mo if any other team beats Pitt.

You guys are killing me with this offense/defense chicken/egg argument. Neither side picked the other up. The defense couldn't get off the field and the offense couldn't put very many extended drives together. Special teams didn't make any big plays and the play calling / adjustments made or lack thereof didn't seem to help any either. UCO came ready to play, punched us in the mouth, exploited weakness and mistakes...we reeled and tried to rope-a-dope for 3 quarters before attempting to mount a comeback and by then it was too late. The positive is I didn't see any quit in the 4th quarter, just needed to see more fight earlier on. Bottom line...IT WAS A TEAM LOSS and several areas need fixing and quickly before this thing snowballs any further.

You are correct in this. There is really not a team that has completely dominated on both sides of the ball. UCO biitch slapped NW. We never really tried to stretch the field and the couple times that we did, the receivers dropped the ball. It really appeared that there was no fire in NW for that game. We simply were on cruise control. Give it to UCO as they figured out how to beat NW.

To me football is only partly about playing with "fire". It's much more than that. It's technique, it's knowing your responsibility, it's making the right call based on what the other team is providing. It's making split second decisions correctly.

Technique and responsibilities are where teams can improve. Play calling is an art and some people can do it and others cannot.

For instance, if a WR jumps up and makes a play, despite being covered, that may just be physical difference or slightly better timing. If a DB has to hold, or interfere with the pass, that's because somewhere their technique wasn't good enough. The missed a jam, they weren't aligned properly, they guessed instead of reading the route, they peaked into the backfield instead of watching their assignment, or they were late in turning their hips.

I just don't believe NW lacks talent to play, but they lack coverage skills and maybe lack understanding their assignments. Also the DL doesn't appear to be able to get to the QB, which is probably a combination of technique and physical ability upfront.

In his defense, he and RollChos and 1 or 2 others have been here since the get go. As I'm sure you know, and every fanbase knows, more people will find the message board and post as their team does better.

And some such as Juiced usually are relegated back to their parents basement without internet access by October 1st.
