Re: Coach in the Hot seat

Imho you can't put too much stock into Bobeck's overall record at UCO. He inherited a **** show his first year, went 2-8 with a bunch of Tracy Holland holdovers.

No doubt he has completely turned this program around and while there needs to be continued progress, he has proven he deserves to stick around. . . for now.

For how long? No playoff appearances in seven seasons? Are you ok with 7-4 or 8-3 records and bowl games? If so, then yes he deserves to stay.

I heard it was that way. older kids that we knew were being recruited by Holland. they said it was straight gangland atmosphere and parents said there was no way their kids would go there. makes it tough to recruit quality kids that way.
coach has brought in a good combination of kids. kids who needed second chances. kids who are borderline students. kids who are borderline athletes but are coachable and willing to work hard. he's turned these guys into grown men who will be better husbands, fathers and friends. he's definitely changed the culture and leadership with this team and I think it will pay dividends for seasons to come.
we've gone from a team 3 or 4 years ago that usually averaged 1 or 2 personal fouls (or at least borderline ) a game on defense to a team that keeps their head about them and puts the heads down and just works. the HOT bowl game was a perfect example. being down 17 with a little over 7 minutes left in the game, most teams that don't have confidence or fortitude give up. period. well, you know what happened.
4 or 5 years ago, that games outcome wouldn't have happened. he's gotten kids to buy in and put the right kids in positions of leadership that would be his mouthpiece on the field. how do you become NW or UCM or FH? get the leaders in position to lead and have the kids help you change the culture.

if you think about it, weve heard for years, the MIAA is the SEC of d2 football. for bobeck to take a team that won a total of 6 games between 2010 and 2013 and turned them into 7 and 8 game winning team every year since in this conference is kinda a big deal. I know this is all about wins ultimately. however, I think the school is placing more value on the culture at this particular time. I think he has a little time left.

hes had to do it in the MIAA not the LSC.....if we were still there, we probably WOULD be in the playoffs.

You play who is in front of you. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas. The bottom line is you are an above average team in an above average conference. Still, how long do the natives accept being 2nd tier in the conference? Teams do turn around and quickly. Whitten inherited a worse mess at Tarleton and went 12-0 in year three before losing a closely contested quarterfinal game in a snowstorm.

BTW, you never dominated in the LSC either.

have in the last 2 years.
there are more people in the dallas metro than in the entire state of Oklahoma. would it be easier to recruit kids to a school 45 mins away or 4 hours? losing or not, Edmond Oklahoma is a hard sell to a kid from texas. ALL of the MIAA schools besides the two Oklahoma schools are within a 2 or 3 hour drive of Kansas city which is where a majority of their talent comes from. that leaves Tulsa and Oklahoma City to draw a majority of your talent from. if a school has been known as a thug football team for in excess of 15 years its tough to recruit the types of kids you want and need because those kids end up going to the other d2 schools in Oklahoma. that leaves you recruiting JUCOS and most of the time, that doesn't work for anyone involved. see Kansas state.
uco was a loser for so long that all the kids that are being recruited have known about UCO is as a loser. all of the D2s in the state are at least competitive so why not go there instead of getting stabbed in the locker room or getting the ass beat off you Saturday after Saturday?

I don't think anyone likes being second tier. who knows, maybe the leadership at uco decides hes not getting it done quick enough. the school has won 2 NCS and has a good winning percentage history. maybe sometime soon, above average wont be enough.

Sorry, winning bowl games against LSC midlings isn't dominating the LSC. It does however get you a great experience for all those who go to the bowl games. Seniors actually get some kind of award for all the hard work and commitment they have made to the program.

Edmond is really nice. Kinda surprised the program was thought of in that light.

hey all we can do is play the teams in front of us lol
i remember some of it going on. linebacker raped a underage high school girl at a party, football players beating up students and i think there was even a coach that had an indecent exposure put on him. those were only the things that made the news. bad qaulity people.
